Damian, my sympathies. Sometimes I don't know what's worse: losing your stuff, or dealing with the tossers afterwards. Good story, but.

Raymond: you got it. (Although, touch wood, I've never had luggage go missing, and I've travelled quite a bit). But I reckon the main rule of travelling is always have money/credit cards on you. You can survive without all the other stuff.

my dad made me a necklace with the staples that were removed from my head

Somehow it's not quite as gross when it's your own body parts.

About a decade ago I had all four wisdom teeth removed. I was going to thread them into a necklace, but I misplaced them.

My parents are moving house soon. Hopefully they'll find the teeth behind some furniture.

Mark, out of hand sounds fun. You email them, I'll upload them

I went home and had a rummage around for a photo I took of a mate when he ripped his shorts/rump mountain biking, but I couldn't find it. Probably just as well.
If anyone's really bored, they could check out my eyeball photo (not gruesome at all)

The second photo was well labelled - i swear it looks like the pickled ginger and soy sauce leftovers from a bento box.

Can we have some dimensions on that lymphoma please? It looks huge.

And look at that obesity graph!

ooh ooh did you see Dr Gunther von Hagens slice open fat people last night? Awesome. Its so cool seeing what's inside (fat)

    Cycling. It burns fat.

Interesting, the NZ Herald views section generally seems to back the cycleway

Totally off-topic, I reckon the new NZ passports look cool. Rick Barker's craggy face, not so much

The car ferry analogy earlier was a good one. We don't build bridges just because a dozen cars use the car ferry.

Ha ha well i was hoping you'd interpret it the other way - people will go a long way out of their way to avoid faffing about with a ferry/cycle van. Anecdotally.

What I'd like to see is some serious thought put into an integrated transport plan for Auckland, showing people how to cycle or walk across town without being run over. At the moment the maps show incoherent little bits of bus/cycle lanes here and there.

He noted that many of the cycle people were... abrasive.

I know, and it doesn't really help the cause. But road cycling is so bloody dangerous, that it's only the abrasive/aggressive cyclists who persist. You won't see "regular" people cycling every day until it is made safe.

The request may be good intentioned, but public bodies need to allocate scarce resources effectively and efficiently, and this project has an existing track record which puts it clearly in the "high risk of squandered money" category

I can totally see your point, and you make it well. But the council also needs to think about what kind of city they want to create. I guess they must be happy with the current mess.

The council were not sure but gave it a go. However instead of building the cycleway they offered a bus/van service which picked up the cyclists on one side and deposited them on the other.

Not quite the same... that's like comparing a road bridge with a car ferry.

It would be so nice to have a council with some vision (a la Wellington). How's that local government reform thing coming along?

God this is frustrating. No matter who I vote for in the council, we still keep getting the same old short sighted stupid shit decisions.

Oh well, keep spending billions on more roads, so we can squeeze on more cars, so we can waste more money on fuel, and pollute the air, and exacerbate climate change, and get fatter and lazier and angrier at those damn hippie cyclists...

fuck it, i'm moving to hamilton (or something)
