Chris Bourke’s Johnny Cooper profile is now up on AudioCulture. Sad day, he really was a pioneer, albeit sometimes accidentally.
Rock Around the Clock is usually regarded as the first rock and roll record cut outside the US, and was released in NZ before the Haley version.

re ‘Boodle’ comic – hazy but as a distributor at the time I vaguely recall that maybe only the first few pressings (coupla thousand maybe) got the comic…
500 I think.

During the week David and I put together a clip for The Suburban Reptiles song Rosie with the sequence from Angel Mine that used it (one of the reasons the movie had the bizarre censor’s warning “Contains Punk Cult Material”).

There are not that many good kiwi songs.

Probably not this yet but another corner of the badlands gets tamed by the RIAA (for better or worse).

This probably is the right thread to mark the passing of Peter Dawkins, perhaps our greatest record producer, and a man who, with a handful of very talented other young men in the 60s and 70s, wrote the book on record production in New Zealand (and Australia later in the 70s).
The media has largely ignored his death in New Zealand which doesn't really surprise me but we published a profile of Peter earlier this year, written by his long-time friend Gordon Spittle: http://www.audioculture.co.nz/people/peter-dawkins
There are warm tributes to Peter from Shane Hales and Mi-Sex's Kevin Stanton at the link.

And Murray's disturbing affection for Bob Seger records (all of which I'd banned from the flat).

Isn’t most music on youtube blocked in Germany because the performing rights association there wont accept their shitty terms?
It's a bit more complicated, but wiki has some of it here.
GEMA is a weird beast, very staunch but sometimes the artists are less than GEMA-positive as stand-offs end up with everyone losing. A high percentage of nothing is ...
That said, Germany pays writers better than just about anywhere for performance.
