Hard News: Never mind the quality ..., in reply to
Perhaps Geoff can keep an eye peeled for the campus book burning, and track down the Hamilton bookstore that had one hell of a good day. Doesn't look like anyone at the Waikato Times could be arsed.
The Hamilton seats used to always go with the government, I think that may have changed somewhat, but it is interesting that the Times has given this demonstrably crap story such prominence.

The fact that this place works as it does is a matter of active moderation, almost all of which is done by me. You're a great bunch, but I've had to remonstrate a lot more than usual.
I visit a lot less often than I used to for various reasons, but was in fact hoping I would visit and comment more in the next four weeks assuming it would be one of the few places informed, strong-minded people would enagage in meaningful discussions. I'm sure it will be in absolute and relative terms. I get that Hager's book and related events are incendiary and hence discussion is equally intense.
This deserves a wide readership - get it out there amongst the journalists
Thanks for the heads-up, I used to check his blog regularly but had missed this piece.

Hard News: Labour's Fiscal Plan:…, in reply to
I thought Parker was excellent this morning, Joyce got flustered and resorted to muttering disconsolately in the background...
I'll have to listen to it because when I occassionally check out recent Question Times I generally think he fails to make meaningful points in preference for technical matters that don't cut through (and he's taking airtime from other Labour shadow spokespeople who are more effective in that forum)

Claire Curran's been responsible for a few to many mistakes for my liking. Shane Jones too, but he's a least gone.

Yeah, cos political corruption, the destruction wrought by gambling addiction, paying teachers and our kids' education* are just minor things. Not at all important.
Nailed it. The affected laziness around process may well be his legacy and, living in Sydney, it's very very easy to see where it leads. The NSW government, regardless of party, is seriously compromised by political scandal and rort.

When we first started Media7, we had then-Education correspondent Gael Woods on to talk about reporting of the Avondale school stabbing incident, and I was so impressed with the way she knew the story every whichway, including things I hadn't thought of.
I had many dealings with Gael when I worked in the NZ education sector, she was a fantastic journalist. Her replacement, John Gerritson (sp), was equally well informed and professional. I still listen to various RNZ shows online/podcast and enjoy them, but then I am a white middle class bloke so hardly well placed to comment on diversity.

Sorry if I missed others’ discussion of it, but Rudman’s piece today on rich buffoons largely sums up my concerns.

Nelson's stats are a little surprising, not that I question them, as I thought McCaw was well short of an imposing presence. I didn't enjoy the game at all and that makes it easier to miss next weeks in preference for going to the Sydney Swans v Port Power.
Still, next Monday night, BOP Magic might win the ANZ Netball Championship having beaten the Sydney Swifts by one goal in the dying moments of last week.

Can I come round and harvest some? There’s a reason feijoa rhymes with “freeloader”, after all :-)
Feijoa related products are the first things I buy on every visit back to NZ. They're very rare here, Sydney-siders generally don't know what they are.

What's the story to there being so many Malaysian restaurants in central Wellington?
A so few in Sydney! However, Mamak in Chinatown is fantastic, the clue is the persistent queue (for visitors to Sydney).
