  • Hard News: Nasty mixtures,

parents object to pot as much because it's smoking as because it's drugs, and they favour a public health approach over a criminal justice approach.

And of course, we can't have little Jonny going to jail for smoking a bit of weed, can we - 'cos "we" (the parents) did that and it didn't hurt us - hence the public health approach. 'cos Little Jonny isn't one of those "dirty addicts" - he's a good boy

    (sigh)

  • Hard News: Appeasing Osama,

Well, lefty liberals, there's only one thing for it. We need to gather in our tens of thousands at some large site - say, a stadium - and conduct ourselves in a liberally depraved fashion, hour upon sordid hour, to the festering accompaniment of the Devil's music. Today would be good.

Because if we don't, the terrorists will win.

Russell, did you write that whole post just to get those last two para's in?

    :)

Have fun at the BDO. I'm off to Varekai myself...

  • Hard News: Grandpa,

Russ, thanks for shaing that. It bought a smile to my face, and (nearly) a tear to my eye.

Thanks for all the interesting reading and discussion thru out the year.

    Cheers

  • Hard News: Walk the Line,

Russell: "Illegal in the US and several Australian states, and not that many other places, I think. Mr Bowden has done quite well producing BZP for export."

oops, my bad. I mis-recalled from here:

    http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/bzp/bzp_law.shtml

BTW, I assume at least some people know that a ban on Piperazines (and analogs) would be, um, interesting, given that Viagra is a Piperazine.....

    http://www.erowid.org/pharms/sildenafil/sildenafil.shtml

I guess the bottom line for me is, if it's banned, I'm not that fussed, and if a roadside test - which is accurate and relevant - is used (I'm not holding my breath on that one), I dont see a problem with it. Driving while messed up on anything is not a good idea - legal or otherwise.

Now, time from a trip to my Dealer. oops, make that Barista.

  • Hard News: Walk the Line,

Tom: something to keep in mind: BZP is illegal in most (I think all?) other countries. eg dont take it on that holiday to OZ, US, UK et al.

If I was looking to bring on a new product to the market - which would be potentially illegal - I'd most likely go about it the same way Bowden did. Ask the law. They say ok - so do it. Assuming there was nothing left out of the import request..... Then keep is low key (so you dont get all the kiddies in), verfify - in person - that everone is who they say they are, and limit how much they can buy. I dont think it qualifies as a "drug trial" in the usual sense, but otherwise...

and yes, he's in it to make money. I develop software to make money. I imagine you do something to make money. Get over it.

"Ease was obstensibly meant to be a MDMA substitute, BZP was/is supposed to save us from the scourge of the P pipe,"

Maybe so, tho BZP + TMFPP is ment to be a MDMA substitute (no, kiddies, it aint even CLOSE). Either way, it would have been a start.... replace MDMA now, move to meth later...

  • Hard News: Walk the Line,

"Surely it would be possible to find a legal high that's not quite so horrible?"

Um, there was one. It was called "ease". But someone got all funny about it and it got taken off the market. I think Matt Bowden et al did the right thing pulling it, but if pure hang over "pain" is anything to go by, that stuff was REALLY clean.

I beleive that the whole point of Ease was to find something better/cleaner/safer than BZP, and legal. The press reports of it stunk of the same attitude which stopped Auckland getting a cable TV network....

Personally, I quite enjoy being on BZP pills, on the fairly few occasions I've used them (maybe 3 or 4x a year, tops - "The Grin" being my current preference), but the after effects are really not worth doing it often.

  • Hard News: Ihug: still screwed?,

I'm actually curious why someone with a company is using an @yourisp.co.nz address. With the (lack of) cost of things like hosted gmail for domains, or even (if you are a PC + Outlook type like me) hosted Exchange, using the ISP provided email for anything except the odd personal email doesn't make much sense to me. Using gmail or similar frees me up from being tied to a single ISP, which I havn't been since I had an @iconz.co.nz address in, um, 1999.....

Of course, I'm in a slighly different boat to most - I treat my cable connection as a packet pipe - I pay the bill, TCL pushes the packets. No email or anything else goes via their gear.
