It'll be all about licenses and how much game footage they are allowed to show. Of the 64 games, only 11 are live and free to air.

Methinks TVNZ hasn't actually purchased any highlights and is simply 'padded-out' the clips originally supplied as news footage. If they have actually paid money for those "highlight" pieces then they have been seriously ripped-off.

Is anyone else disgusted by TV One's highlights show? I think in an hour long show we are lucky to get 5 mins of highlights from each game - and of those 5mins probably only 2-3 mins is when the ball is actually 'live' and in play. Deplorable.

When are TVNZ going to dump Mark Sainsbury? The interview tonight with Schmeltz and Reid was the most tepid piece of sporting television I have seen in a long time (and there are plenty of contenders for that title given the state of rugby journalism on NZ television.) He couldnt ask a single intelligent question, other than the final one about how they celebrated. The rest of the interview was 'how does it feel?', 'how do you keep your cool?', 'do you know you are famous now?' If there was a single, probing, insightful question in there then I'm afraid I missed it. Those poor soccer players that have to sit there and take the guy seriously.

  • Speaker: KICK IT! Vuvuzelas and Jambulanis,

I hate those vuvuzelas. They make every game sound like this: ...

As best as I am able to tell, the World Cup games sound the same as they have always done.

We're only talking about the vuvuzelas and the Jubilani ball because the football hasn't been particularly exciting so far. When the final round of group matches begin, this stuff will fade into the background as football becomes the focus.

  • Speaker: KICK IT! Football's comin' home,

Well then, I can forgive the empathy for North Korea. I, too, am interested to see how they go. Apparently the team will be feted as heroes when they get home - win or lose. They have a very tough group, too.

The Portugal v Brazil match will be interesting. I notice on YouTube that Portugal is usually involved in the games labelled the "most violent", especially with Brazil - former colony and all that.

Australia's display was shameful - it looks like the game against NZ was a portent of things to come after all.

  • Speaker: KICK IT! Football's comin' home,

This time I've got too many teams to follow, New Zealand, South Korea, North Korea, Australia, England until they lose on penalties.

    ???
Tut tut. I know that rooting for the underdog is a noble endeavour, but really, North Korea? Give me a break. And after yet another sour performance from the Australian thugs, I wont be cheering for them again. And England just dont look potent enough up front.

So then, 2 out of 5 aint bad, Yamis.

    "Pigs in the trough"?!

I think the image of journalists rummaging around in the screeds of documents for weeks on end is kinda reminiscent of the same thing.

Oh yeah, I'd agree - it is a double-edged sword.

Is it better that the uninformed 'base' run the government?

    'Democracy' you mean?

    Haha, very good.

A leader's job is to lead. If John Key is going to allow the tail to wag the dog, why the hell do we call him our leader then?

Well yes, just as I rather doubt Helen Clark won every caucus or cabinet vote in her career. We all should have a pretty big problem when Government is run by Prime Ministerial fiat no matter what the tint.

Is it better that the uninformed 'base' run the government?
