I haven't seen much about the 1st MMP government with Winston and Jim (Bolger, not Anderton) - and later Jenny, who kicked out Winston and went downhill from there.
Wayne Mapp gives it a bit of a go. While he pretty much confines his experience of having been there to generalities he mercifully avoids further flogging the current rancid Green-Nat coalition nonsense when drawing parallels with the present.
Elsewhere he addresses the historical impediment to his being taken seriously as a pundit - namely the silly National Party spokesperson for the Eradication of Political Correctness hat that Brash made him wear back in 2005:
"I understand you thinking it was satire," laughs Mapp today. "I think some of my colleagues in my own party thought the same. You don't expect a major political party to do something like that. My colleagues at the time were bemused and sympathetic, I think that would be the best way to put it." -

I think Melbourne recently instituted a rule where apartment dwellers can't complain about noise from a venue that was there before they bought the apartment. Seems like a good idea to me.
Perhaps it'll save them from Sydney's fate. Once the new opulent overlords have destroyed the last vestiges of any surviving nightlife they emerge onto their balconies and mop up the schoolkids.

Last night's RNZ Mediawatch episode tried to do some tracing of where the National Green coalition story came from.
Of course no-one's been paid to beat this story up. A Nat's 'n Greens combo is as natural as peanut butter and ice cream. And there's not a shred of evidence, acknowledgement even, that any palms were greased in bringing that vital news story to an eager readership.

Let's wait til 'business interests' campaign to ax the tax cuts, cut back the RONs, bring on a carbon tax, and put the money into climate change initiatives. Then (maybe - if we accept poverty in a land of plenty as just fine) there could be talks. But I'm betting it will never ever happen.
While O'Sullivan claims that "Pressure is now on the Greens from business allies to shift base", she's predictably coy as to who these allies might be. If the legendary bluegreens had demonstrable substance beyond their ongoing political unicorn status I'm sure that Kennedy Graham would have been rapidly reinstated weeks ago. Instead events have removed any doubt that he's anything other than the mildly charming stuffed shirt who's done sweet FA in his time with the Party beyond providing a token don't-frighten-the-chooks candidacy in Gerry Brownlee's fiefdom.

The main idea seems to be attempting to shame the Greens into cooperating. But I haven't seen a single exception to the rule that says that the writers of these opinion pieces simply want a National government without Winston, and that they have no Green-cred at all.
Strange too how none of these worthies seem to be placing the onus on the Nats to make the necessary overtures. It's all about coercing the Greens to step inside the prettiest little parlour / that ever they did spy.
