Tamihere is in prison for the Swedish Tourist murders; the evidence in this trial was even more dodgy than the Bain case
I imagine that one of the Solicitor General's arguments for a retrial would be to pre-empt Tamihere, Scott et al from getting to the same point.
I can also imagine Father and Son being in it together. I haven't heard that theory put forward.

The Guardian is also of the opinion that a challenge would be healthy -
A contest would also prevent the left, and especially some oppositional trade union leaders, from seeking to claim after a Brown coronation that they speak for a wider segment of party and union opinion than they actually do.
The likely challenger from the ranks of the Labour Left not only opposed the Iraq war but also had very fond views of the IRA's bombing campaigns -
It was the bombs and bullets and sacrifice made by the likes of Bobby Sands that brought Britain to the negotiating table.
Ah, the Left.

But apparently the David Bain case is linked to all of this as well? WTF??
The intersecting worlds of Karam and Wishart. Bain might be innocent and Karam may have started out well meaning but his campaign to prove Bain's innocence morphed into a vendetta against the Police (as well as the entire justice system).
For Karam, Bain was not just the victim of a miscarriage of justice but of a Police conspiracy to frame David Bain. Now, such a conspiracy needs a motive - since why on earth would the Police go out of their way to frame David when the evidence, supposedly, pointed so compellingly to the father. So what better motive than someone involved in the investigation being linked to Laniet Bain.
How convenient.
Wishart has such good timing. Either that or I could think of a number of conspiracy theories myself.

Is it beastiality if the beast is dead?
Depends at which end of the gastro-intestinal track the beast is inserted.

But I do think there are legitimate questions to be considered about Dunedin Police conduct. Allegations of rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, animal cruelty etc are not something one should ignore.
The key word being legitimate. But that is not Wishart's schtick and you know that DPF.
People allow their hatred of Wishart to black their ability to apply critical thinking to the situation.
I must admit to having a prejudice against Wishart and that may very well now verge on something like hatred but that's an attitude based on the fact that he produces pretty dreadful material. It is the worst sort of "investigative" journalism.
Joe Karam seemed quite sure...
I'm not sure who out of Karam and Wishart comes out worst for being associated with the other.

Yuck! The crime scene. I don't agree that "weird family" equates to David being guilty of murder.
Didn't mean to imply that.
I heard Karam this morning on Morning Report chiming in with support for Whishart's latest. Whatever Bain's guilt or innocence Karam has some strange ideas.

I don't know why the Police are coming in for criticism over Bain (and Watson etc). It's the Crown that prosecute, not the Police. I think it was about 17 judges all told that presided over this case and all found the same. Maybe there is good reason for a re-trial but all this talk of a Police set up misrepresents how our justice system works.
Strangely enough I saw the Police videos of the crime scene. It was one weird family. And in my layperson's opinion he was guilty (along with Watson).

Blair can also take credit for the humanitarian interventions in Bosnia and Kosovo. Although the US did much of the military work it was Blair that convinced Clinton that something had to be done about Milosevic.
The British public aren't being quite so hard on him as some here - Poll shows he will leave with voters' respect.
Quite remarkable for any politician after 10 years at the top.

We wait with baited breath for Al Gores corrections.
The extra data could be a mistake on the level of Gore's or it might be more on the mendacious side. I haven't seen the doco so don't have a feel for its general tone. But the offended scientist describes the inserted data as "fabricated" rather than the less judgmental "interpolated".

Maybe it's the only lie, but given this howler I suspect there might be others.
Graeme, I have a special loathing for left-wing agitprop but I really doubt if Gore was lying. He was most likely ill-informed. Which I admit is unusal for a US politician.
