The Jon Stewart clip is hilarious, as are the uniforms. I wonder if they get a bonus for wearing them....

Awesome that you're alright Emma.
On matters medical, my two grandsons arrived a month early after a helicopter flight down from Alex last night
Congrats!

I don't think that banning patches will "work" for Whanganui in so far as making it any safer for the public (possibly less safe with a move to colours). Sure, you can argue that the ban may lead to less intimidation of the public, but presumably people will be equally intimidated by gatherings of people wearing colours. So what was the point?

What I found interesting about the Chinese Embassy protest was that it was made a *lot* less public than their objections to the showing of the film (and the speaking of Kadeer) at the International Film Festival in Australia earlier in the year. Was this a case of the Chinese govt not wanting a repeat of the huge publicity that the film got in Australia following their protests? I suspect so. I'm glad Maori TV stuck to its guns and showed it anyway.

Good luck Emma, you'll be sweet. Feel free to post nice things about Chch public-Mum works there (ward 29) and good stuff makes her day.

Great post Emma. I'm in the last year of a history/political science degree in CHCH. Was going to be just a history degree but did Islamic politics as a first year paper and now am aiming to do POLS with honours next year....after that goodness knows.

Re: collecting ettiquette, I spent several hours last weekend collecting money for Amnesty International. I was a volunteer, as I believe all of those collecting in Chch were. We do get a bit of paper advising us on etiquette, but, as I hate being made to feel guilty by collectors, I just stood on my corner with my bucket silently except for thanking people who donated. Sure, I may raise less money, but at least I didn't try to make people feel guilty to get them to donate.
