I think it's because image has a common currency. I know many business- and enterprise- oriented people who don't share my values but do understand the business advantage of arguing to preserve the "green image" of New Zealand.
Working to maintain the "clean green" image can also work to the genuine advantage of the environment.
Yes, being pragmatic is good. Get as many people on the waka by hook or by crook.
But damn, the complacency! Mine included (so I am going to ban myself from takeaway coffee as penance for my righteous indignation ;-)
Re students. Imagine if students were burning couches and throwing brinks for some politically motivated reason. That would make the country sit up and notice, well until Shorty started I guess.
I agree with Russell about the privileged little couch burning f&%ers.

Not the cute nurse!
You need to choose a PAer that you imagine to be the cutest and request a virtual sponge bath.
The presence of apostrophes and hyphens in your post is very cheering.

Got to the 29th page finally!
Someone wanting some item of yours, something that in certain circumstances you'd be happy to share with certain people, and acting aggressively to get it when you've said no. In this case, that item happens to be your personal space and/or your body.
When I think about it like that, it suddenly becomes much more compelling, and the implications are pretty moving.
Thank you for that Mr George Darroch, I think that is a great thought experiment to give men the smallest inkling of what it is like to try to enjoy your own sexual energy/power (because you can and you should and there is no reason to hide your light under a bushel) without men becoming grabby and downright scary when told that you are not interested.
Just call bad behaviour when you see it gentlemen, and the women of the world will salute you (and maybe swoon if they are that way inclined).

Consider, people who are not attractive in photographs, but in person always attract attention and never appear to be 'short of options'.
I aspire to be that person.
I hope she has some success with the mag, a magazine for women that does not harp on about dieting or celeb gossip sounds pretty promising.

Cheers Damian, those are some great images. I am looking forward to catching up on some real coverage of this event when I have the time.

And then there are the ones that have a space for the occupation of the father, but not the mother
My 1982 NZ birth certificate has no space for my Mother's occupation, but it's typed in there anyway, over the top of the next bit of text. Can't do that on a web form.,
Love it. Love it. Love it.

Am I the only person that dislikes the Powershop banners? Especially the one with the plugs that seems to capture my cursor with a tractor beam.
I like those ads, both of 'em (I even clicked through and the design of the site is nice too). What I hate hate hate is flashing side banners, they can feck right off.

Oh yeah, and also I felt grounded and grounded in the positive and negative sense equally.
Clipped wings and slow mo'
Spent months listening to my heartbeat as it slowed down
asking myself, 'are we there yet?'Culture shock can be quite visceral.

@Michael Savidge
For a while, being back felt like I had failed at something.
I still feel like that at times.
To @linger I hear you about the Japanese language learning. When you do return to NZ you will be very socially non-standard initally but don't worry there will be people that understand what it is like and there will be more comfort in social situations once you adjust.
Also you get to stop feeling guilty about your level of Japanese! Trust me that can be very freeing.
