  • Access: Disabled floater voters Part 4:…,

Has DPA NZ forgotten the Part 4 amendment to the Public Health and Disability Act 2013?

And the Maori Party's support of it?

Oh, that's right...DPA NZ actually provided support against allowing non-ACC disabled people being able to choose who provided the care they had been assessed as needing.

National here is an improvement on the previous Labour government’s “review of long term supports”

    In which universe, exactly?

  • Hard News: The Day After Tomorrow,

As someone who had to be dragged kicking and screaming to change the habit of a lifetime and actually engage with and vote in this election, I am quite frankly shocked at the cornered feral cat response from the incumbents at the merest hint that there might be a Labour/Green government and a real possibility that the train of neoliberalism might just be derailed.

I sometimes feel that I'm living in some sort of a bubble...or an echo chamber..as nearly all of the people around me see that there absolutely needs to be change.

Yet, it appears we are in the minority.

  • Envirologue: Swamp Monsters – the…, in reply to Hilary Stace,

Ironically, also with a strange link to the Minister charged with fronting and sorting the mess.

Hmmm....I've had a wee gumbeat over on TS about this...I smell a number of rats decomposing in the swamp on this latest incident. The pipeline practically forms the eastern boundary of the big log storage yard.

I will not be satisfied until we get up there to check out the locale...from our knowledge of that immediate area things are not adding up. Vehicle troubles at the moment but should be up there by the weekend.

  • Access: Disabled floater voters:…,

"Love has consequences”, said a National candidate to a disability forum defending benefit reductions to disabled partners with ongoing high disability-related costs. Lack of love might have consequences at the ballot box for less lovable parties.

So...which party has promised to repeal this?

    “Part 4A
    “Family care policies
    “70APurpose of this Part
“(1)The purpose of this Part is to keep the funding of support services provided by persons to their family members within sustainable limits in order to give effect to the restraint imposed by section 3(2) and to affirm the principle that, in the context of the funding of support services, families generally have primary responsibility for the well-being of their family members.

Or, at the very least, apply the same legislation to those with disabilities enjoying the rights and entitlements afforded by ACC.

  • Access: Is the tide turning for disabled…, in reply to Katharine Moody,

Being an obsessive compulsive more information seeker I followed the "Read the full policy here" link and got Mojo's 2012 document.

I know they're busy and all...but considering there has been outstanding work done by a couple of Green MPs on disability issues I expected better.

Having said that, I think both have been moved down the list....

This might be an appropriate place to share these….

    National’s Disability Policy

    Labour’s Disability Policy

    Green’s Disability Policy

The first is pretty much what you’d expect…and if y’all don’t know how National rates disability issues then you’ve been living in a cave for the past nine years.

Labour has made a real effort…and I’m beginning to regret having done two ticks green the other day as…

the Green’s disability policy page has a very unfriendly ACCESS DENIED message.

The only policy document by the Greens specifically relating to disability is from 2012.

Decades now of so called advocacy groups taking the government coin and thereby being obliged to sing their paymaster’s tune has made the lives of many disabled Kiwis harder and less secure than twenty years ago.

.... Seymour on Morning report ..... have an open mind..... euthanasia bill – yet .... Metiria ..... slinging mud of dubious provenance.
    Another odious oik ....

Yes, curdled the milk in my ricies it did...

Perhaps, and this is only a suggestion mind, since Metiria has actual lived experience of her hobby horse...surviving on a benefit...shouldn't Seymour do likewise with his?

Now of course I'm not suggesting that he end it all. Of course not.

But while he sits smug in his snug world of privilege, gloating on the political demise of one who presumed to open up the festering wound that is poverty and inequality in Godzone, beneficiaries have died for the sins of WINZ.

  • Hard News: Metiria's Problem, in reply to izogi,

    ...blackmailed somehow...

I would certainly not use that expression. I am hopelessly and irrevocably cynical about politics and politicians, but I do try to keep up.

I've watched the GP morph from sandalled, herbalist activists with a refreshing 'I'll dress how I damn well please." attitude, to the smooth, polished, scripted product that graced the cover of this glossy glam mag.

Assuming that any speech delivered in public by candidates is thoroughly vetted by the 'comms' team, discussed in depth with the party's tacticians...how on earth did they think this would play out...especially for Metiria?

Undoubtedly, Metiria revealing her past indiscretions while struggling on the DPB will have helped the GP to reconnect somewhat with those that might have felt alienated by the sophisticates in the N&S tableaux...it has not made Metiria's position more secure.

The more I think about it...the whole thing smacks of an attempt to deflect a possible shit storm.
