Hard News: The Web, in reply to
I got my domain in mid-1995 so my email address is 18 and a half.
I registered taniwha.com back in 1993 so my email address is ~21 years old - but I used uucp before that the same machine had served me as ..!taniwha!paul since about 1989

Sure, we need a lot more than 30MW to close the gap and get us to 100% renewables, but it's a start. And with Europe feeling the ompact of climate change, it's unlikely that National's fuck-the-planet energy policy will be without cost in terms of exports for much longer.
ahem, cough, Tiwai Point should just about do it .... so, on to cow farts ....

I wish I could go to Kiwiburn again .... but sadly anything on grass in the middle of hayfever season is just out ... but still we're going back to that other burn again this year .....

I spent Saturday at the Waitati Music festival, (across the street from Metiria'a 'castle').
It's a nice laid back combination of country field day and music, kids, families, I got sun burned ......
Best thing I saw on the day was one time as a band started up a gaggle of teenage boys jumped in and started dancing together, eventually being joined by some girls - the world is changing in a good way and our kids have it in hand

My 21yr old told me the other day that she was going to the 7's next year, apparently it just the best party ever .... she was surprised that there might be rugby

We went to see The Pa Boys - the theatre was empty which is a pity because it was a great Kiwi movie - go see it while you can

Hard News: Crashing the party before it starts, in reply to
I think while Dotcoms new party provides internet based political junkies some excitement the reality is that it probably won't have any more impact that the McGillicuddy Serious Party, which, were it reincarnated now would probably receive the same breathless analysis as the Internet Party ....
Um ... quick trivia: which McGillicuddy Serious Party candidate is now an MP and party leader of a NZ political party?
(and as far as I can tell from New Year Eve's shenanigans is still an unrepentant McGillicuddy ....)
Bob Jones never made it into parliament

(Even though such corruption isn't even possible. When "treating" was first proscribed, candidates could (and did) have an open bar next to the hustings, and were able to ply the voters with beer/gin and observe them voting in the desired fashion. Dotcom would have had no idea whether his party attendees stay in bed or vote for another party on election day).
I think that the proscription against treating is still a good thing, I can imagine a situation where one party might be able to afford a far larger bar than another - I'm very much in favour of anything that disconnects the marketplace of ideas that is an election and the financial marketplace and the ideas that it might favour

So it seems that the Electoral Commission are the source of the legal advice?I'm guessing it went like this:
- Party yay
- Whaleoiil leak with free wifi detail
- "Free wifi is a bribe"
- "If free wifi is a bribe, what about a massive party for 25,000 people?"
- "Shit."I kind of imagine it was more likely Graeme saying "you're doing what?"

Hard News: We need to talk about Len, in reply to
I just have to say it because I don't think I've seen anyone point out the obvious: he likely didn't report the hotel rooms because he didn't want his wife to find out .... it's an Occam's razor sort of thing
