I could never get this. Why would it be degrading? I mean so long as neither party feels that way.
Yes, I'd agree with that caveat in principle. Although in real life? How would you know how the person you are paying for sex feels about the transaction. And what circumstances put them in that situation?
-
Also. Men paying women for sex = degrading to women. However, women paying men for sex = degrading to women. Wuh?
Yes, that is indeed wrong. But, possibly due to a thoroughly Lutheran upbringing, how about People paying people for sex = degrading to people?

Not so much a particular item of clothing, but I believe have owned at least one pair of Dr Martens (mostly 2 or 3 pairs) at any given time for the last 30 years. I would estimate that I have worn Docs for about 80% of my shoe-wearing-time.
I guess I like them.

As opposed to last night's Three News fellatio-anilungus fiesta on Winston Peters not standing in Helensville. WTF was that about -- and should Duncan Garner and John Campbell just get a room and fuck him already?
aargh - the image! - it hurts!

I've also seen ads placed by MoJ suggesting that bus travel was what happened to people who didn't pay their fines. I guess that's what they call joined-up government?
Yes, that was just appalling. Especially as they were at the bus stop.

Did Euan Mason "test" the data or has he just expressed an opinion without backing it up?
I don't believe he has to "back up" a statement that essentially says "put up or shut up". AKA the normal scientific process. If you have an opposing theory, write a paper and submit it for peer review. Going to court would be what you would do if you already knew that there is no merit to your theory.
ETA:The question remains.
Not really.

If the science is to be robust then let other scientists test it.
Whats to fear?I don't believe there is anything stopping other scientists from verifying the numbers. In fact, as associate professor Euan Mason of the University of Canterbury writes:
Let the “Climate Science Coalition” tender its own calculations and subject them to rigorous peer review by submitting a scientific paper.
If the "Climate Science Coalition" has an opposing theory, then submit it and let other scientists test it. What's to fear?

@Danyl: Indeed, your post quoting Stalin and the Soviet Science Wars was exactly what I had in mind regarding the Sovietness of ACT's stance on science.
I'll have to get a copy of that book - seems like the Science Wars are still being fought.
-
There's something wonderfully Soviet in the way ACT supports this action.
Make the science conform to our ideology! Or we'll see you in court!
And by wonderful I mean horrible.
