Speaker: An Open Letter To David Cunliffe, in reply to
I don't really understand all this hating on David Cunliffe and the parroting of what various know-nothings in the media have declared about him. He had a conversation pre-election with my young daughter and she was pretty damn astute in her assessment, judging him to to be a genuine guy. Sure, he has stumbled along the way but there have plenty around helping him trip.
My partner went to see him speak here in Nelson (I was spinning tunes on the radio) and she said he was relaxed, warm, genuine, and spoke from the heart. Pretty much nothing like the uptight guy we saw on the 6.00pm news every night.

As someone who's thinking I greatly respect put it, "if you want to defeat Slytherins, you must become Gryffindor." Also, you need a Harry Potter (male or female).
In this analysis, Cunliffe's a Hufflepuff, right?

In Wellington over the weekend, the Malthouse and Hashigo were stacked with IPA's (from the West Coast challenge), it was hard to find one under 6.5%, in fact they were advertising 6-6.4% ones as their lighter drinking beers. I get the feeling there's an expectation people should be able to knock 3 or more pints of this beer back, but it's a bit too strong for my fortitude.

That win flattered Italy, I reckon. England were competitive and unlucky not to win, but Italy looked stodgy and one-dimensional. Brazil, Argentina, Netherlands or Germany would've beaten them easily, I reckon.
Not sure about that. England finally look like they have some attacking threat with Sterling and Sturridge, Welbeck wasn't bad either. But no one in white came close to the class of beautifully bearded Italian Andrea Pirlo.

Is Diego Costa the Quade Cooper for this world cup. Country swapping, niggles off the ball, booed by the crowd every time he touches the ball, plays well for his club, but crap for his adopted country?
Not fit I reckon. Wonder if Spain is paying the price for the massive European season that their major clubs had. But it's more than that, key players getting older, their spiritual leader Puyol retiring. Casillas aged 20 years out there today. Kinda sad to see but all power to the Dutch.
