  • Hard News: Friday Music: The First Time,

First gig; Crowded House at the Wellington Town Hall aged 11 (I think). I met Neil the day before the show and he was really nice and gave us tickets so the whole experience seemed completely deluxe. Crowded House were great. I think the support band was the Dead Flowers. I did not like them.

First gig without parents; The Breeders & The Smashing Pumpkins in 1994 again at the Welly Town Hall. The Breeders were amazing, life changing. The Pumpkins were grumpy and hilarious. Billy Corgan tried to get the audience to call Kim Deal a bitch and he got booed. It was great.

  • Hard News: Mega Strange,

Holy crap, PA comments are basically an unfolding mystery novel today. Come on Cameron chime in again! I want the scooby doo ending.

  • Hard News: Mega Strange,

I'm reading it at the moment, and I kinda wish I had purchased the ebook as I'm travelling a lot this month and it's just too heavy! I seriously think hardcopy books should come with download codes like vinyl. Wouldn't that be great for the user? A nice copy for you bookshelf and a copy to read on the plane.

  • Hard News: Friday Music: The Next Kids, in reply to Robyn Gallagher,

David Dallas continues to impress. I love him.

Also you should know you have been 'banned' from The Neo-Kalishnikovs blog. Awesome.

For those not in the know 'The Neos' are NZs best blog-troll band. They are pissed off at everything and it is thoroughly entertaining. They have really been ramping it up of late, subtly implying death threats etc.

Their music is actually not awful. You could imagine them getting a bit better and actually being quite popular but alas they are burning bridges at an alarming rate.

People might say 'don't feed the troll' but where is the fun in that? (sorry if I seem mean, I don't intent to be mean, I can identify with much of their angst I just never voiced it quite so much when I was at that stage of my life).

  • Hard News: Friday Music: The Next Kids,

The Lips seem to have removed that tweet. A grumpy post argument lapse by tired dudes on the road? They are a great band to follow on instagram. They still act pretty unhinged.

I like all the critics choice bands. In fact I just about like everything nominated at this years VNZMAs. I'd be fine with losing the alternative album award to Lawrence Arabia or UMO. Both great records.

  • Hard News: Friday Music: An Outstanding Evening, in reply to Russell Brown,

Wasn't it about 2am? I think you can forgiven for heading homewards at such an hour. I am always so much more inclined to party when in Auckland.

..VNZMA technical awards next week...big awards a month after that...I think I need a new suit.

Definitely the best awards evening I have been to. So many genuinely moving moments.

  • Hard News: Thursday Music: Doing the Business,

Sprawl II is super duper. I always thought it was sorta their The Knife tune.

It has a similar glory to this tune.
