  • Hard News: Democracy Night, in reply to Russell Brown,

Key called it “a huge majority” on Morning Report today. I really wish he wouldn’t do that.

Oh, NOW he decides to go on Morning Report....

  • Legal Beagle: Referendum Fact Check 4:…,

Lazy question. Are we forced to vote for one of the four if we want to retain MMP? Is our vote invalid if we do not choose one? Cant seem to find any information on this on the referendum site

  • Hard News: Complaint and culture, in reply to jessica scott,

as do obstetricians, GPs, any health professionals

True, but the regulations seem to be a lot more lax, as the midwives are outside of the tertiary hospital service

  • Hard News: Complaint and culture, in reply to B Jones,

The latter doesn’t bother me, but the former really bugged me last time round when I called at least half a dozen before I could get one to take me on.

With my wife being a trained nurse this bugs the hell out of her :) I guess we are quite lucky with her being a pediatric nurse, she is well aware of all the risks that go with childbirth. But it still does tempt us, first time at least, to go private.

  • Hard News: Complaint and culture,

I don’t usually read N&S that often, but seeing as my wife and I are trying, I thought it would be good to read. It was good to see an article which at least questioned the ‘natural childbirth’ angle. What distresses me is that midwives can vary so wildly, and don’t have to get a general nursing degree first, which is standard in a lot of other countries. My wife and I don’t really care whether the birth is natural experience or not, we just want a birth where my wife and our baby are given proper care and treatment.

I have to say I didn’t even notice anything wrong with the cover until I was reading the follow up issue with the reaction.

  • Hard News: 2011: The Year Of What?, in reply to Sacha,

Yeah fair point, but I don't think there such an outpouring when Bill Gates left. (Best example I can think of OTOH). Sorry I just find the messianic outpouring to Jobs a little OTT. But then again i'm not a techie so maybe i'm just not in the target.

  • Field Theory: What to watch,

As long as we don't play in grey/silver it will be ok. Going to the Ireland v Russia game should be a gooden.

I realised today that the All Blacks POTENTIAL semi final is on a Sunday night at 9pm kick off. There are going to be a few people calling in sick on Monday if we win. Or even if we lose.
