re: the John Key video. I was struck by how he wandered around and no one came up and talked to him, at least in the bits of the video that were edited in. One sequence was probably 20 seconds of him just moping around. He strikes me as a person who doesn't know how to approach 'real' people, and who real people either didn't know, or weren't interested in.
I can't imagine Helen Clark getting five feet without someone saying hello, smiling, or coming up to talk to her about something.

The logic was that because CDs were new, fewer people bought them and they cost more to make.
It's my understanding that that's a falsehood. CDs are physically much cheaper to make, and also cheaper to put the music onto. I don't know how accurate/unbiased this is:
A CD, with its plastic jewel box, printed booklet and tray card now costs a major label about 80 cents each to make (or less) and a small independent label between $1.50 and $2.50. Meaning that CD's should now cost the consumer less than their original prices over a decade ago, not more. But the music business got consumers used to the idea of paying the higher price and the labels got used to the idea of their higher profit margin, and record labels continue to this day to pay almost all artists a royalty rate as if they're selling CD's for the list price of vinyl. That extra 4 or 5 or 6 bucks goes right into the pockets of the record labels.
In the very early stages, lots of new CDs failed, so they might have been more expensive, but everything since the 90s has been a rip-off, surely?
When my dad got our new stereo in 1985 or 86 (the dealer chucked in Brothers In Arms on CD free)
That's weird. When my family brought its first stereo with a CD player (1988 I think), the salesperson left Brothers in Arms on CD in the CD player accidentally, and we kept it.
Maybe it's the only way they could offload that CD?

I just set up an account when prompted. It didn't have a New Zealand option for the address (I used CA 90210) but they were happy to take my card and deliver the bits.
Luke Perry and Shannon Doherty are currently very excited to be receiving your tunes. Brian Austen Green is apparently mocking your taste in music however.
I'd die in a ditch before I would publicly condemn my 14 child no matter what he/she said. Thats what family means, FFS.
Hear hear. "Is gay-bashing appropriate?" Absolutely not. "What will you be doing to your son Mr English?" None of your damn business.
And seriously, "teenagers not yet mature enough to not be homophobic". It's sad that the world is still that way, but again, not news!

Don't forget to keep taking the pills Craig.

It gives you a feel without enabling lazy stalkers.
Because we only want to enable truly committed stalkers?

Kyle: can we agree that the truth is somewhere in between?
Yup.
To return to where I came in: that becomes a problem if the system that we can deliver for 1M people is, as a result, so inconvenient as not to be used.
Yes you're right. But it's all relativities. Auckland is eight times larger (in population) than Dunedin (I'm not sure about relative size of the urban region), which has a reasonable (if not great) public transport system. I suspect Auckland's problems relate as much to bad design (city design, and public transport) as a lack of people squeezed into the space.
Auckland is a bit of an unusual example because it's all spread out to hell rather than built up and the main arteries are limited in some ways by geography and bad planning. Also, public transport tends not to be able to use motorways much because of the need to go through the suburbs, and yet driving through the suburbs is very slow. Light rail or a subway would not have that problem.
There's also a tremendous lack of commitment to public transport in Auckland. It wants to be a big grown up, international city, attract thousands of tourists, host major international events etc. City planners from real cities overseas must come and look and fall over when they try to get around.

He can be a bit of a dick. But I seriously think that any comparison with Banks is way off the mark. I think Hubbard is good-hearted. Banks is just a creep.
It's kind of sad, but if Hubbard is naive and somewhat related to Goofy, then he at least can learn, and there's a possibility of getting better. Banks has learnt about as much as he's ever going to learn in life, and the best he's ever going to be is a dishonest scumbag.
Y'know, from what we can tell down here.

Tracey was a magical woman @ G.H.S. Great Swimmer. Her parents owned a magical mystery garden forest and home called Sundrum. Chris Sheehan wrote all the weirdly bizarre 1950's doo-wop chords. I wrote the repetitive verse. In fact apart from some Trance/Hippity Hoppity Mix stuff..def the mos' rep verse that i writ (sic). Where be thee Tracey ? Search @ your own lost Teardrop Reward..xoxooj
My life is, it seems, now complete.

I find it a bit concerning that the All Blacks really hit their straps and fired in the first part of that Italy game, and they've been at best average since. Round about now would be a good time to be peaking guys, we start playing real teams in a fortnight.
I think both Sivivatu and McAlister have probably played themselves out of the top 15. Rokocoko has been playing very well, and hasn't found the dropsies, unlike his cousin. McAlister hasn't shown enough for me to indicate why we'd want him rather than the experience and consistent performance that Mauger offers. Mauger doesn't make stupid kicks either.
My selection pick is at some point during the knockout is for Leonard to move up to top halfback. Byron did OK as starting halfback, but 3 minutes after Leonard had come on he ripped the ball out of a Scottish players arms in McCaw like style, leading to a try, and he brought more running and urgency to the game.

An acquaintance is standing - not in this ward, unfortunately - and I've suggested her slogan should be 'Vote for me, I'm not a bitter obsessive with a major personality disorder'.
Well that rules her out of being qualified for local body politics!
