  • Hard News: Some Lines for Labour,

Was it Jan who used to drink about 2 litres of coca cola a day? The dodgy past of a green candidate!

She was. She was women’s rights officer for NZUSA, the first. She is exceptional and I learned a lot from working with her. She went on to senior roles in the YWMC.

  • Hard News: Some Lines for Labour,

Unthread Bart commented that Labour does not have obvious principles informing it’s policy relative to the greens. I don’t agree. I would argue it has a broader set that relate to improving social inclusion and and reducing inequity as well as developing the economy. Perhaps though, these principles are most clear when expressed as a single policy. The greens apparent coherence is a function, IMO, of them still being a narrowly defined party and not one that could lead a government. I have said that a little bluntly, it is not meant as a criticism, just an observation.

  • Hard News: Some Lines for Labour, in reply to Sacha,

Sure, but internally. I understand entirely why people are criticising Labour's performance. Some of the criticisms I agree. Much of the criticisms, here particularly, are constructive. I figure many commenting here aren't members but as I am one, I'd rather offer my views through the "official channels" so to speak. I've followed the discussion here though because, as is typical of PA discussions, it's very considered.

  • Hard News: Some Lines for Labour, in reply to Russell Brown,

Some of their new candidates are good too; Jan Logie I used to work with and hold in the higest regard. James Shaw I had some dealings with too - he seems to be part of their move to the centre (I might be wrong about this). I've previous noted that I've been impressed by Turei too.

I remain pretty keen on Labour despite the current problems. The new MPs that came in as they went out of office are consistently very good. I've refrained from this discussion only because I am a member .

  • Hard News: Some Lines for Labour,

Meanwhile, Don Brash's open letter to John key might be the most socially divisive rant I've ever seen from a New Zealand political leader. Winston Peters included.

    It's bizarre.

    It neatly wedges Key but.

Sorry, back to herbal medicines as others wish.

JP, thanks so much for that link. I love that song and this is a wonderful version.

Re Adam Hills, his show is good - he's very good; he's got the right mix of larrikin and charming bloke. His music quiz show, Spicks and Specks is very good and includes Hawera's very own Alan Brough.

I was being ironic. No tag for that.

Apologies for missing it, glad we agree.

I grew up in Sydney and was lucky enough to be exposed as a teenager to 2JJJ/TripleJay during

TripleJ is still a fine institution and although I think highly of student radio, I still think NZ missed out on the opportunity for a national network... I'm sure this is a topic dear to many hearts here and that opinion will be divided. I recall when Deb Morris, briefly Minister for Youth Affairs c. 1997 tried to get the idea up but couldn't (not sure what went wrong though).

Aidan, the Church had an ok song? Under the Milky Way is brilliant. I'd thought it was a NZ song as I first heard it performed by Strawpeople - I still like both versions.

For a more recent rock/pop/slightly glam track, how's Silverchair's Straight Lines?

Rob, I was very lucky to get to see Sydney Dance Company performance, Underland, which was inspired by and consisted entirely of Nick Cave songs. It was magnificent (my wife works for the Sydney Opera House which has permited us access to many more events than we might have been able to afford).

Christopher, True Tears is brilliant, love it.

Every Hunters discussion must include a reference to the Holy Grail... reckon this could be for the All Blacks... but it's more likely for the Saints

Anyone remember the Finn/Sports Cafe RWC song circa 2003? I love it, it reminds me of getting up to watch games in the Northern Hemisphere!
