Hadyn, I realise you're speaking tongue-in-cheek regarding politicians' sporting abilities, but in all seriousness if a politician can convince some people to take up sport, even to a limited extent, that's a good thing.
Govts around the world are spending a lot of money in their health systems combatting obesity and related issues, so if it can improve someone's health, then good on them.
Sorry for sounding so earnest... -
...the Straitjacket Fits guys after they received the Legacy Award...
Which they so richly deserve. It was great to see John Collie (not to be confused with John Kelcher ;) ) wearing a "Brockville Brotherhood" t-shirt (said location being the working-class Dunedin suburb he and Carter grew up in).

<smug>I'm superb at remembering people's names and faces. I can bump into someone I haven't seen in years and not only remember their name, but also details about their interests, etc</smug>
The only thing I am crap at remembering is jokes. I hear loads of good ones and am rubbish at remembering them.
Russell, regarding John Collie, at least you didn't really put your foot in your mouth and call him "Wayne Elsey" or be seen as winding him up and calling him "Andrew Brough".
As for The Fast Women, they will, with a name like that, have to play 'She Speeds'.

Doh! The above post was supposed to be in the "Have You Met Thingy?" thread.

Andrew Saville's to replace Tony Veitch as One News' sports presenter. I think this is a good choice. He's somewhat workmanlike, but far less obnoxious, braying and concerned with being a "celebrity" than Veitch.

Lets cut the outraged virgin routine? Gleefully re-telling the latest rumour over some beers is human nature. It is NOT the same as constructing a careful laundering process for spreading rumours full of depraved filth.
Tom: If you really want to go there, sleazing around the Press Gallery (on a "non-attributable basis" naturally) is not having a gossip over after-work drinks on a Friday. My point, as I think it's a perfectly valid one, is that Grant is being a little disingenuous if he thinks the left don't play the same game. And it all makes me sick, to be honest.
Craig, I am well aware that Labour, etc, are no saints. But I was refering specifically to the likes of Whaleoil and co, not National or the right in general.
-
Oooh, a whole big bunch of sleazy, dodgy, mendacious, scurrilous lies about the Labour Party spread by Whaleoil. Gee, there's a surprise.
What's the bet that should someone reveal something skoddy about a National MP Whaleoil, Hooten, et al, will hypocritically cry foul.
It also beggars belief that the gossip columns in the Sunday papers take such tips from these people seriously.

Sticking with speed: Haile Gebrselassie broke his own marathon world record on Sunday. He ran 2:03:59 in the Berlin Marathon (where he set the record last year). Maybe choosing to skip the Olympics paid off?
The Warriors lost to the Sea Eagles (the most retro of league teams narrowly pipping the Raiders). But they were not blanked unlike the Sharks. This means, by my calculation, the the Warriors are the third best team in the NRL. And we should all be stoked about that.
That's an outstanding run by Gebrselassie, the man's masterful at the sport. Running in the cooler northern hemisphere would've helped.
I ran the Sydney marathon myself back on Sept 21, did it in 3hr-13min, coming 136th out of just under 2000 finishers. It was sweltering, even with a 7.15am start.
The winner did it in 2hr-19min.I also went to the Warriors vs Manly game. The Warriors started really well, but failed to finish off some scoring chances, whereas Manly did. Still, they never gave up and at least Manly don't resort to dodgy illegal tackles, unlike the Storm.

Given that my e-mail address is "krautrockboy" I can hardly resist a Kraftwerk thread, can I ?
Autobahn is a great song and album. The three before that, Kraftwerk, Kraftwerk 2__ and Ralf And Florian are superb, very under-rated. There's also a lot more experimental stuff going on.
The drummer on Kraftwerk, Klaus Dinger, went on to form the even better (IMHO) NEU!, then La Dusseldorf. If you like Kraftwerk, then be sure to check out these bands and others that family tree such as Cluster and Harmonia. (Here endeth today's sermon...).
