Finn, this might be your first encounter with sonic - don't waste your time.

I'm glad they don't have sopphistocated mind reading equipment.
I don't think there were any sophistocated minds invloved.

I was hoping we'd here from Shane Jones sometime.

Some of them might have gone on the bush trip and come back rather shocked and with a mental note to avoid those nutters in future.
I've been wondering if that happened since it appears none of those activists with more tenuous links thought it might be a good idea to tell the Police what was going on.

One person out of the dozen decides to pick up their weapon when the police say "hands up" and who knows what's going to happen.
Jamie Lockett would be odds on for that role, he wants to die in a grand shootout with the Police.

I can see why the Police thought they should intervene earlier rather than later and hence why they went for the TSA. Broad never seemed that keen on looking at this thru the cloudy lens of 'terrorism'.
I'm in two minds about the DP's actions, it may turn out to be legal but I agree with che's fear of trial by media. On the other hand the supporters of those arrested have felt no compunction to act in a reasonable fashion and have played out in the media their own anti-Police and anti-State agenda. So I don't have sympathy for them.
I suppose it’s now about what happens to the state of play of race relations in general and Tuhoe’s legitimate grievances in particular. I’ve got faith in Labour to act sensibly but I’m not sure about some other politicians who should be acting more sensibly.

challenging yes, inflammatory no
I just don't see anything about what Jackson and many others are saying is in anyway challenging. Jackson and Sykes are lawyers and have a penchant for cheap amateur theatrics which can beneficially to their clients and entertaining at times but it's not constructive politics.

Quelle surprise.
well we're bound to disagree on his one but I think the PM has it right. The terrorism laws are inappropriate for what Iti was up to but the laws which should be used have a number of failings. There's no good reason why intercepts shouldn't be able to be used with fire arm charges, if they can be used for drugs then why not for guns.
And some tweaking to the laws regarding conspiracy might be a good idea.

They haven't happened to me either, but I've looked beyond the veneer of "We're all New Zealanders" to the structural inequities that allow Pakeha New Zealand to do violence to Maori individuals and groups in real and immediate ways every day of their lives. Call me biased, I call it realism.
You sound like a recent convert. I don't know who’re preaching to but you might find that a lot of other people know about our history and the negative effects this has had on Maori and have spend time and energy working towards some sort of remedy but still consider the words of people like Jackson, Sykes etc to be inflammatory.

Nicky Hager, Jane Kelsey, Moana Jackson and David Small
I doubt you will agree with me Stephen, but as some one who is centre-left and spent a bit of time confronting Police in demos etc perhaps you might consider my views well meaning, these people are mad. I find it really disturbing the amount of influence these people have on the left.
And I find it really disturbing that there has been so much benefit of the doubt given to crazy people with guns - all because the spout left wing causes - and a corresponding demonisation of the Police.
But I am reassured that the Labour Party has much the same opinion.
