Another highlight of the night: Robyn Gallagher's tweets about the Original Gangsta Bytchyz Annual General Meeting appearing on the big screen.
You know, it started as a bit of a joke, knowing that #ogb tagged tweets were being projected at the event. But after a while, others starting joining in on the fun, and it became a way that people who couldn't attend the OGB could still have some lolz on a Friday night.
Just so you know, the Original Gangsta Bytchyz will be making an appearance at the OGB in Wellington. Consider this a warning, yo.

My favourite part of OGB - the fact that while I was at the other end of the island, through the power of Twitter, I felt like I was involved with it:
@gemmagracewood @robyngallagher Nice to see you at #ogb! http://yfrog.com/jw6q6sj
On Twitter, I held the Annual General Meeting of the Original Gangsta Bytchyz, which grew to be a collection of people who were unable to attend the Orcon Great Blend, due to matters of geography, biology and even geology.
It didn't really occur to me until it was done how ambitious we'd been, but it worked.
Ok, so I expect something at least this ambitious for the Wellington OGB and even more ambitious for Christchurch, because that city deserves a show.

I think Giovanni's riposte may be the correct one:
It looks like Twitter! Kill me now.
OMG, Giovanni is obsessed with Twitter!
The new PA design vaguely resembles the design of twitter.com, but looks nothing like Tweetie or Tweetdeck or Twitter for iPhone or many other ways of using Twitter.
But twitter.com vaguely resembles the design of many other community/forum websites, including the current Public Address and current PA System.
It looks like a change for the good.

Oh look - Lance Wiggs tweeted a photo of the new look Public Address. How very very exciting!

Postscript: We've just had our water supply reconnected -- hooray for the council!
The Canterbury earthquake has made me really appreciative of the luxuries I have in my life - electricity, water, sewerage, mobile phone, internet and a roof over my head.
Glad to hear you're ok, David.
-
I wish I'd found out about the 'quake through Twitter. Instead I found out about it through real-life twitter:
@robyn WTF? Why am I awake?
@clockradio it's 4.36 wake up!!!!
@bookcase ha ha ha I'm shaking!!!
@robyn Is it an earthquake?
@myteriousobject I'm just going to clatter for a bit... dare you turn on the lights?
@bookcase i might fall over lolz
@robyn I can't be bothered. I'm going back to sleep.
@bookcase ok ill be quite now :-) -
Christchurch is my new favourite "other city" and it broke my heart to learn of the disaster.
I'm so glad that all my Christchurch posse and their whanau are fine, though dealing with lack of power and/or water, and all the clean-up issue can't be pleasant to deal with.
I've had plans to visit Christchurch again early next year. I can't wait to see what new bold city will emerge.

In 1985 there was some palaver over the smoking in Desperately Seeking Susan. Some outraged mother had decided it was a children's film (and evidently Madonna was a popular children's entertainer), and therefore children who saw the film or even looked at the poster would be lured into the world of smoking, which is not cool.
Meanwhile, I - aged 10 - saw Desperately Seeking Susan and loved the crap out of it. I thought Madonna and Aidan Quinn were the two coolest people in the universe and I wanted to live that crazy-arse beat-up New York loft existence.
However, it did not make me want to smoke at all.
Influence on smoking came from real people - the cool kids at my school (but not the young bogans who were genuinely struggling with and troubled by their nicotine addiction).
The trouble is that your friends who are cool smokers are so cool, and that's more dangerous than any film or TV show.

...Piranha 3-D , whose highlight is a chap getting his cock chewed off and squabbled over by carnivorous goldfish? (The glorious cap to that scene is the bulimic winner puking up the tasty morsel in the direction of the camera.
It's been a long time since I've laughed at much at a film. Another highlight - the 3D spew, and Jerry O'Connell's 3D tongue. Absolutely glorious.

O M G - this sounds absolutely amazing, to the point where I'd bloody well fly to Auckland for the weekend if I didn't already have something on the Saturday morning.
Please oh please oh please say there'll be something of a similarly awesome calibre for Wellington. You know we good for that.

A couple of weeks ago, I was lying in bed trying to get to sleep and I started mentally redesigning the PA website. So if my semi-dream comes true, we'll see the merging of PA System with front page PA.
