“Anarchism is founded on the observation that since few men are wise enough to rule themselves, even fewer are wise enough to rule others.” ― Edward Abbey

A lot of people who put themselves up as "leaders" illustrate the truth of this.

And the new forecast starts in Auckland, rather than moving up the islands from the bottom

Something we don’t have is location customised weather in NZ. (Overseas, TV stations work on a regional/network model and they cut to regional weather and news during a national news show. We’ve never had this, right – or was it ditched to cut costs or because it doesn’t work well on satellite unless you have BBC type money).

But with digital, you should be able to do this – although you’d then need to either have regional presenters or have the national presenters spend time recording each of the inserts.

  • Hard News: Fix up, young men, in reply to Russell Brown,

The front rows of a concert are a complex, physical place.

The whole world is a complex, physical place.

I do think that while kids grow up as brotards, it's going to be hard to contain them, and if a gig attracts brotards, it'll rapidly have an even more unpleasant atmosphere with brotards, overbearing security and overbearing security battling brotards.

Of course, we have an education system where many kids are kept away from the opposite gender in adolescence and encouraged to think of them as strange sexual creatures. Then they have a mandated culture that fetishes physicality and an anti-culture that channels transgressiveness into hate for difference.

If you then follow this up by busting these kids with the full force of the law, then maybe (if they're middle class enough) they'll be chastened and go on to behave better as they mature. Alternately, as is a common outcome, they'll descend into the criminal justice system and the ranks of violent petty criminals.

Some promoters are trying to filter for boofheads by banning shirtlessness.

As well as shirtcocking, or instead of?

If you're overseas and earning less than $19k (student, volunteer work, on the local dole, bludging off parents), do you have to make repayments?

I think the fact that you can be arrested for non-payment is another reason to argue loan repayments are a tax, not a debt.

What, Hooton read Kiwibog? Does the CEO of Maccas actually eat the burgers? Or El Chapo smoke crack?

I'd be fairly amused by a retrospective "my election campaign with Kim Dotcom" series. Any takers?

  • Hard News: Radio being made, in reply to Rosemary McDonald,

Or the genius that is the BBCs Test Match Special - I fondly remember a 2 hour drive out of London listening to the commentary, not on a game in progress, but on the efforts of the Bajan ground staff to dry out the Kensington Oval: "and they're bringing up the small medium roller now. A good move, do you think, Richie?"

  • Hard News: Radio being made,

I would watch this, if I was around at the time - 5pm I'm normally leaving work and walking home. Some sort of delayed start function would be good - does this exist?

I'd think this sort of mixed media is a way forward and will be another nail in the coffin of broadcast TV. Most of a TV news programme has to be the presenters preening, interspersed with B-reel and this only gets more so as budgets for news gathering decline.
