In the disability world luck and love definitely play a part. For a disabled person life will be a lot easier if you are lucky to have the love of someone eg a mother, to advocate for you. You will be lucky to find good services and supports when you need them. A lucky family will have the contacts and resources to get the help they need. Without luck everything is much bleaker. It is not a good basis for public policy.

So could you theoretically buy a property in every territorial local authority and vote in each one? That is surely unfair. You should only be able to vote where you live.

That ban on prisoners voting is so unfair. The state could start rounding up people and imprison them before elections. It happened in Wellington Central in 1972 when protesters against compulsory military training were imprisoned just before the election and the resulting vote was very close. Although the new Labour government came in and removed the ban, lowered the voting age as well as ending CMT.
By the way do was their any significant interest from this committee for lowering the voting age?

The Ministry of Health is supposed to be about Health and Disability but the disability part seems to be often overlooked (as well as the health part).

I recently drove Wellington to Auckland return. The main trunk railway runs alongside the road much of the way, some of it electrified and some of it not. Between Auckland and Cambridge there is major new roading with an underused non electrified railway line running beside it. It wouldn't take much to electrify and connect the rail systems to have some really efficient, regular and comfortable passenger rail. This would also suit the growing number of people who do not drive or have their own cars. This used to be the main way people travelled around the country and could be again.

Even I am counting down the years. So looking forward to having a regular steady income after years of hit and miss contracting. And the Gold Card for free transport. (Might have to vote for Winston to ensure it is still there then, though)
