There is someone out there who will Photoshop my head onto Kylie Minogue’s body for a gold coin.
I'm spinning around on my chair as I type.

Would anyone view that as saying anything about my “sexual availability” – and if not, is there anything behind you reasoning besides my gender?
Since you had to ask; that totally depends on how high your hotpants go when you're kneeling.

I think there are far meaner things happening in the current welfare and tax systems in terms of the distribution of state assets than this would introduce.
Possibly, but that's not really a very compelling argument. Besides, it's an argument for introducing a policy to address an issue which simply does not exist. That some people fear that this is an issue does not make it one.
-
Rather than feed this fear it might be cleverer to ...
Pander to that fear? However unreasonable it is? Because perception is reality?
You need to rein in your self-righteous idealism a little.
I can sense some self-righteous idealism as well, but it's not coming from Joe.

I'm not sure if there are some editorial guidelines that the papers follow when writing about the school system. Like:
If there's a dispute betwen the ministry and the teachers - always support the ministry and belittle the teachers.
If there's a dispute between school and students - always support the school and belittle the students.

...we would do ourselves a service by acknowledging that when we eat a bit of meat, it came from a living being
And what better way of doing that than to catch and kill yourself what you eat? Like with fishing.

Will they stay fresher if you let them drown in air?
Not really, no. Today the common practice is to use an Iki spike. There will still be some flapping around though, which may be what Damian referred to.As they say, you can't make an omelette without breaking the eggs. And you can't eat a fish without killing it.

Heh, I just edited a typo I made in a comment from four years ago.
Oh yeah - me too!
Functionality or defect?

No they didn't until you brought them and I find that really disappointing since you could have been constructive.
This is where I thought you invoked the population bomb argument:
I’ll also argue that those people who do have big families are doing some harm to our planet – less harm than any merchant banker but more harm than a family of 2 or 3 children
If that's not what you meant, I'm sorry.

What can I say? I find it offensive that Ehrlich's Population Bomb arguments come up in a thread on Jackie's lovely post about the families she works with.
