And that's assuming that everything in those times was actually 'news'.
Those live crosses to reporters standing outside a court building where something happened earlier in the day that has been timetabled for months. I need something to throw at the TV when they do that.
And weather appearing in the 'news' section. FFS.

I give up. WHo are you?
That's easy - he's David Letterman. The top ten lists give it away.

__The difference being that Labour has publicly disavowed the actions of the Fourth Labour Government and did so a while ago.__
Yep. That doesn't change the fact that those cuts of the 80s still took place. History doesn't change just because someone promises not to do it again.
Well, the original question was who are civil servants likely to vote for this year to be the government of the next three years. So I don't think they're saying history changes, just that unless you're either 1. still bitter at the 4th labour government, or 2. don't believe their disavowing (of which the past three terms is a reasonable follow through of), then the 4th Labour government really is just history.

Preventing Violence in the Home director Jane Drumm told a child abuse conference in Manukau yesterday that the safety of women and children should override the privacy of offenders.
I wasn't aware that privacy was an issue here. The main reason people are going to get name suppression in a case involving violence is to protect the privacy of the victim.
Surely all someone needs to do is compile the daily court news from all the papers into a database and put it online.

Plus many have just been put into a category of "too many bureaucrats"( although none will know if it is themselves)and are often being spotlighted for incompetence by the Nats.If I was in this position ,I would b e busy trying to prove my worth, which would be for the greater good of the public sector
You'd be one of the few. I think lack of job security and resulting stress is probably likely to decrease efficiency, and also reduce morale and increase rumblings and 'work to rule' type behaviour.
I suspect most people would think that 'proving your worth' isn't likely to have too much to do with whether or not you have a job at the other side.

You have a dog that brings things back? I've assumed the term "retriever" is ironic, for labradors anyway.
My dogs play 'chase', followed by 'get distracted', followed by 'ignore owner' followed by 'watch owner retrieve ball'.
Apparently it's a bunch of fun.

What's scary is that they think that's enough.
That's not scary. It's scary that it will be enough :P

I don't have a trebuchet, but if you want to give them even a vaguely sporting chance, I have a claybird thrower and a shotgun. They get one last burst of freedom, and you get them to blow them out of the sky like rats-with-wings.
Or if you shoot anything like me, one last burst of freedom, followed by landing on the ground and getting to go "haha, you missed me you useless shot! fucked ya again!"

Back in the unspecified (in case someone pops up and tells me what a terrible memory I have) day, I loved the 3Ds. Didn't they play at an Auckland University Orientation one year in the early 90s? That rocked.
They did the whole set of orientation gigs in... 1993 for sure. Probably a couple of other years. There's posters over the road in Poppas Pizzas on Albany St, Dunedin which would tell you (or me, since I'm a little closer).

and why vulnerable constituents need a party political broadcast like like a spare arsehole in the middle of their foreheads
I'm going to happily interpret 'spare arsehole' as meaning that some people have already got one arsehole in their head. Which seems appropriate when discussing politics, we just probably wouldn't agree on exactly which politicians :)
