And what is it with National Radio spending so much time to ex GCSB players who patently say that they either know nothing or won't talk? Such a waste of airtime. The arrival of Greenwald et al is certainly highlighting the general abysmal level of interviewing capabilities in NZ.

My understanding about Assange is that he's not keen to go to Sweden as the expectation is that they'll render him to the USA. Maybe the change of government underway there will result in a guarantee that this won't happen, then the whole sex thing can be dealt with without being undermined by the Wikileaks issue.

“Free speech has been cartelised.”
Or maybe cauterised....

Maybe it's time to rewatch 'Sleeping Dogs' and dig out the Angry Brigade and Weathermen manuals...

Agree 100% that changing the government as a result of their disinterest in the people of Christchurch should be the overriding priority of the election.
Fortuitously this may well mean that a lot of other ills also get addressed, but irrespective of that the ongoing crucifixion of Christchurch is a travesty. Hard to call us first world... -
So what happened to all the righteous anger about the asset sales? Nary a mention these days.

The scary thing is that it seems that a moral way of living is going to have to come from the ground up as there is little sign of it existing in a tenable way amongst the so called leaders in most areas. Politicians, public servants, police, business heads all seem infected with indifference to the greater long term good.
With an election only a few weeks away now is the time for real leadership to be exhibited. I do not see many coherent and reassuring signs. -
We need to accept that we are not the clean country that we like to think we are. The pursuit of money and disinterest in our fellow citizens (and guests) has lead us here, with the natural wonders of the country being steadily and obviously degraded in front of us. The short term thinking that has seemingly infected so much of all thinking has to be turned round.
Labour's complicity in this since they wrested power from Muldoon should be owned, for without them making a clean and honest break from the rotten behaviour of so much of the establishment it is difficult to see how we voters can enable a better future as a result of this election.
It seems near impossible to motivate voters to embrace an inclusive responsibility, (we are not the USA, socialism is the general good, rich and poor alike), a clear political choice is essential to reinvent ourselves to actually be as we like to see ourselves. -
It seems that there are similar issues on the other side of the Tasman with the democratic order being adjudged of less value than the profits of the few - http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/aug/15/wayne-swan-warns-rise-business-oligarchs-new-book-good-fight?CMP=ema_632. Maybe we're not so different, after all.

I'm liking the expanded reissue of the Allman Brothers Band's 1971 Fillmore East concerts. Tasty.
