  • Hard News: Love you too, man,

Too slow for tickets to the Wellington gig… cest la vie :)

This week I finally got my mitts on Grayson Gilmour’s No Constellation – it came out in May but there seemed to be a big holdup getting the vinyl pressed.

Buy it on disk and they’re kind enough to also give out a lossless download.

  • Field Theory: Settle a bet,

    "This is Sparta...!"

300 is a movie that had a ton of quotes. Originally I didn't like it, but I've come to appreciate it as a finely crafted piece of pulp - it's really rewarding to pull apart.

And the PG television edit of the trailer still makes me laugh:

  • OnPoint: Table 6.2: 'Rich pricks' & Others,

    Paul,

I think you're wrong. From memory Cullen's "Chewing Gum" Budget in 05 proposed ending fiscal drag by automatically adjusting brackets for inflation. It was a pretty gutsy move at the time, but very politcally unsexy.

This adjustment was abandoned along with the tax cuts when Cullen launched the "Block of Cheese" budget. This is a shame I think as it would give the public greater transparency over the Government's fiscal plan.

  • Hard News: You're all fabulous,

My guess is that it's going to take a while to get up to speed with rights to recordings -- the anniversary box set was quite a mission to clear. But it goes without saying that there will be intelligent re-releases.

Stuff world peace, the world needs vinyl re-issues - with orignal liner notes/comics etc

Slugbucket needs Chris's comics to convey the pathos of singles like Crush.

  • Public Address Word of the Year 2009,

"Relaxed" - as in "I'm feeling...".

How do you you feel about:
more NZ troops in Afghanistan? Relaxed.
    Double Dipton caught out? Relaxed.
    youth unemployment? Relaxed.
Minister of the Crown mocking the cycleway? Relaxed!

  • Hard News: A Strange Surprise,

My feelings on that advertisement mirror yours - it makes the police look like they are running a campaign on Driving While Young.

  • OnPoint: Things I know,

It took the release of Safari for Windows to finally figure out why I found the Mac experience so disconcerting - it's the damn font rendering. Does this resonate with others on both sides of digital divide?

Speaking of a different type of MS-Apple underdog - if any of you get the chance to have a play with a Microsoft Zune I heartily recommend it. The new firmware is a thing of beauty and syncing is now wireless (painfully slow for 500mb movies, but good for podcasts and photos). I'll be importing a second gen 80gig from ebay at some point to replace my original.

  • Speaker: Part 16: Charisma - Just a Dark…,

Hang about: this side has made two of the top three succesful run chases in One Day International history, right before the tournament starts and gets called boring.

Yes the cricket in this tournament has been more muted compared to the Chapple-Hadlee series simply because of the lopsided nature of the NZ contest thus far. England collapsed and offered little resistance, so too did the West Indies and Bangladesh. I have no doubt that the rest of the S8 rounds will be a little more stressful.

Perhaps a decent tussle with Ireland (a la the Enligsh performance) would earn the admiration of the Guardian writers?
