OnPoint: Sunlight Resistance, in reply to
Stickering newpapers, buying the whole border of a an online newspaper, and sponsoring the news with your political party is a game of money, not fairness.
Also politics, and elections are supposed to be a competition of ideas, even a "marketplace of ideas" if you will - the party that's supposed to win is the one with the best ideas, not the one with the most money - to buy an election with money is as much dirty politics as anything else is

Will they wait outside the next board meeting of Fonterra or any other large NZ company.
One would hope someone is doing that, and asking the question "why did you wait until after the election for that announcement?"

Oh for heaven sakes, they're locked in a room figuring out what they should do next, they're not "not handling losing", as far as we know they are busy handling it, it's just taking a while, longer than a news cycle and not in time for press deadlines
It's only really a problem if they just lock the door and never come out

I guess there's also a bit of "oh crap the election is over what do we do now" from a press gallery still running on adrenaline ...

The thing is we all know that what happens in caucus is a process and secrecy is part of the process, all those people camped out outside the caucus rooms knew this, they're essentially there in case they can catch someone slipping - hearing the media this media this morning ragging on Cunliffe because he just can't come clean with them and continue to be a good leader seems just a bit silly - creating tension for tension's sake - rather than just reporting what the process is and explaining why no one is talking

I was actually talking about Dunedin where things have been pretty bad under National, jobs being bled out, government departments shut down, even mail sorting was moved to Chch, cross town mail now takes 3-4 days rather than 1

Hard News: Five further thoughts, in reply to
Vote Positive just didn’t cut it.
especially in a year when the biggest election issue was corruption on the part of the opposing party - I think that Cunliffe should have abandoned that campaign and gone for the jugular when Dirty Politics came out, instead the biggest election story just wasn't about them

Ian: FPP causes you do do that, if I changed anything I'd do an STV for local electorate elections
