  • Speaker: The Government lost the election, in reply to Matthew Hooton,

I really don’t see any evidence more civics education is needed.

That nice Mr Seymour warned us about that Civics stuff – Orwellian and Marxist indoctrination in disguise apparently!!

While officials have been investigating whether a kind of sonic weapon has been deployed, the source and cause of the attacks remain unknown.

I’d be looking at long term cellular damage caused by low frequency harmonics, possibly created by micro turbulence through the diffraction grating formed from the 140 flagpoles placed in front of the embassy back in 2006 – the prevailing wind seems to blow towards the building – different sized flags or winds would create luffing eddies of varying sizes.

    As above, so below…

  • Hard News: The Day After Tomorrow, in reply to Katharine Moody,

What he said in that press conference was that he’s waiting for the full vote count. What could be wrong with that?

David Seymour and National can attest to the ‘unforeseen outcomes’ that may arise from making deals before all the facts are known – all that finagling for zero gain, and a whole ‘Blue electorate’ with emasculated representation.

<thinking further> Seymour would have good grounds for getting National to pick up some of his Electorate office expenses or getting Paul Goldsmith to take up the slack - as the seat was 'gifted' by compliant blue voter drones.
    Fair's fair.

I note that Fran O'Sullivan at least managed to not invoke the 'holding the country to ransom' meme - she went straight for 'tyranny'!

I see Duncan Garner has outed himself with this intemperate rant:
    https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/opinion/97391717/duncan-garner-the-megalomaniac-reigns-all-over-nationals-parade

he adds unreasonable ignorance to the mix

But right now it's all deja vu, which has turned into Peters and his daily verbal spew. It's been a week of rock 'n' roll, insults and threats. No-one is any the wiser.

The clocks went forward an hour last Sunday, but collectively we've gone back 21 years to 1996.

Peters is squeezing every last bit of patience out of New Zealand voters. And we have only ourselves to blame. MMP was always going to have the annoying, yappy little chihuahua biting the face of the rottweiler.

One man with 160,000 votes now dictates terms and holds to ransom the two political beasts with 1.8 million votes between them.

NZ's patience can only be tried if he goes beyond the Oct 12 deadline - we have not yet had our patience tested.

It's sad that a commentator with such a wide audience should be so ignorant of MMP's processes and intent.

Between him, Hosking, Joyce and English they have strewn our electoral landscape and zeitgeist with landmines (or memes) of misinformation that may well blind many in the future - they certainly did this election.

Janine Starks: Winston Peters, go blue for KiwiSavers

OPINION: Dear Winston. Let's be upfront. I care about money. You care about people. And most people care about money, so that's what links us.
Another admission; I'd like you to choose National. There's no point me pretending to be purple. Columnists are never neutral and I'm not about to be the first.
    ....
The $10 note is blue and the $5 note is red for a reason, but I think you know that.

that last sentence no longer exists in the body copy, just in the photo caption - perhaps they realised that fivers are orange - it's the $100 that's red!

    She does end (spoiler):

Of course it's too black and white to claim investment differentials over different time periods are entirely the result of politics. They're not and we all know that. But governments do play a big hand in creating the right climate for growth and you can be the judge of the numbers.
We'll all be fine under Labour if that's what you choose, but I for one, will always wonder how much greater every KiwiSaver fund could have been.

...but who reads to the end, right?

...and did you know the $20 is also known as '1 tinnie'
there's a very illuminating subsection on this under the NZ$20 Wikipedia entry.

    Drug association
A tinnie is a colloquial term coined for marijuana buds wrapped in aluminium foil (typically around 1g) which are illegally sold in New Zealand. The most popular price and form of currency used in exchange for tinnies is a 20 dollar note, although this can vary depending on quantity, weight, area and the vendor. Tinnies are often frowned upon even by regular marijuana consumers, the term and sale of which are typically only common in rougher areas of the towns and cities.[citation needed]

Guyon Espiner does quite well in the distorting reality stakes as well.
This morning I hear him talking about the special votes maybe giving Labour and the Greens 'more legitimacy' - I don't think legitimacy is a 'scaled beast', something either is, or isn't, legitimate - and 61 seats is as legitimate as 63 seats - there is no uncertainty principle in play, despite how much National loves boxing on with 'dead cats' and 'Pretty legal' song usage...
