No, I’d say Gower and Dann are quite different, and reflect their respective networks. Dann is tame, Gower is feral. Unfortunately Gower is more likely to hunt a credit card overspender than a Minister who misplaces the odd billion. Neither serves the public well, though.
TV3 news has, under Mark Jennings, made some effort at decent journalism (e.g. Mike McRoberts being dispatched to war zones, and doing a real reporter’s job, something Ken and Barbie would never do at TVNZ). But the MediaWorks decline seems irreversible now. Their Sunday ratings hit has affected 3D, which in its previous guise did some solid work (e.g. Teina Pora).

If TV3 news struggles, we all suffer the consequences.
Classic example tonight: Corin Dann has an "exclusive". In other words, a story given to him by the government. They know he's happy to be the mouthpiece, to disguise (poorly) their PR as his journalism, so they get a good spin on a bad topic for them (housing).
Nothing new there, it's SOP for media management, but less competition = more manipulation. And TVNZ has proved far more pliable than TV3 in recent years.

Actual Hide quotes:
1) it shows they have another leader too shallow and too lazy to think and debate.
2) They live far away from the productive world sipping their lattes up the Aro Valley following the latest green fad on their smartphones.
Rodney's irony detector, broken beyond repair.

90% of media commentary on the Greens is just recycled clichés. If they proposed a flat tax and privatizing the police they would still be portrayed as morris-eating, bean-dancing, sandal-sniffing hippies.
The basic fallacy is the notion that the Greens have failed. They haven't (compare Green parties in similar Western democracies). Their potential partners have.
The Greens are not here to solve Labour's problems, or to get patted on the head in blatant bad faith by Henry and Hosking. They're doing just fine - including their two distinct but complementary leaders.

When you write a book about a Prime Minister, and that Prime Minister endorses it, is the main attraction at the book launch, and cheerfully signs copies for supporters at party conferences, then you have abandoned any claims to "journalism".

This says it all:
Campbell's crusades should not "go past the point of audience fatigue e.g Pike River", and steps would be put in place to prevent this happening with the show's replacement.

New show's slogan; "We won't bore you with truth" (Source: me).

Two questions, one of clear law, the other of unclear politics:
Is it possible to amend the referendum legislation, so that a minimum turnout is required before it is binding? And assuming it's possible, is there any chance it would happen? (i.e. would National accept such an amendment?).
If we have a referendum that is both postal AND unwanted, turnout could be chronically low - say, 25%. And if that produces a narrow vote for change and is binding ... cripes. Yes, I know the answer is "Shoulda voted", but still - that is Key buying a whole lot of trouble.
I really hope they've thought this through (or maybe I don't: "Events, dear boy, events ...").

Viewers may hve noticed that TV3 have hastily changed their self-ads, those "for me it's three" jingles.
Samantha Hayes used to tell us she liked to watch John Campbell. And Campbell used to plug Jono and Ben.
But JC has not only left the building, he's been airbrushed out of the "family" photos as well. Presumably next week the voiceover will be Paul Henry saying he loves Road Cops.

Hard News: 2015: The Budget of what?, in reply to
Agree with Bart, but pessimistic about that happening.
If the problem is identified as "strategy" or "policy" or "communication" then Labour MPs can persuade themselves that they are tackling it.
But when the problem is "Labour MPs", then Labour MPs are the last people to see it, or do anything about it.
