Hard News: Dirty Politics, in reply to
Is my impression too. Hopefully they're working carefully on stories rather than meekly wating for further lawyering this week.
Hopefully. Or the power/money has talked.
MSM being partisan is a problem overcome by KDC, he tweets links to you tube material that makes this point and gets their message across.

My personal view is what the public are looking for - and what needs to occur as a precursor to real economic reform - is a political party with the vision to promise a real program of democratic and civic renewal, for example:
Under the current system it would never get into a position of being able to implement any of this. If we don't get the rot cut out in the next term, only rebellion is going to force positive change. It may not be that far away either, if you think about the decision to fortify MSD offices.

L'Estrange-Corbet insisting that there was no child poverty in NZ. Her argument was that if poor people only gave up their booze and fags, they wouldn't be poor any longer and their kids would all be well-fed.
She immediately went on to claim that there was no real unemployment in NZ because there are plenty of jobs available.

This is no back-room conspiracy - it is so out there and obvious one has to assume that the perpetrators have become totally relaxed with their brainwashing, to the point where it is an accepted fact of life. Want to work in the media in New Zealand? Then say what you like as long as you support John Key.
I've long since stopped buying papers and tuning in to one sided programmes. Consumers do have some clout in that advertisers need numbers- but so many of us seem not to notice the existence of the spin, it's a worry.
Thank goodness for the internet and this blog. There's really very little of merit as far as I can see in today's reports. Bryce Edwards was comprehensive yesterday. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11319671
The "Truth Please" link is interesting.
I had hoped there would be a major effort to make sense of and publish stories on more of the remaining e-mails, perhaps we'll see that tomorrow. -

The problem then is that we are governed by a central agency whose mandate comes from the rest of the country. In any other circumstance it wouldn't matter if people didn't follow what is happening here,
Understood. Hope for change, and do what you (lawfully) can to precipitate it. Votes matter and may be the best way the rest of us can support the hardy but pressed folk in Christchurch.

Fits of laughter!
Where in the world is.... Jason Ede? -
Hard News: Privacy and the Public Interest, in reply to
Is he even alive?
It's odd that he hasn't been spotted anywhere. You'd think someone would've staked out his residence, so presumably he's no longer living there. It's clear that the media must not speak to him. Perhaps he's been provided with a whole new identity and banished to a safe house (complete with golf clubs).

but being all blokes was a bit grim I thought...
Yes, I tuned in for 5 minutes or so, saw it was going to be another talk over and switched off. Metiria did the last one (Campbell's civilised dinner) so it was Russel's turn, and under these conditions the deepest voiced, loudest, rudest person is often heard the most. It just makes me cross. I wasn't even tempted to turn back on to see the smoke :-)
What I thought with Campbell's dinner session was that I actually heard policy and they each had a chance to say what they wanted to. Two women, three Maori, by my count, not too bad. -

Will the real Jason Ede please stand up? Perhaps he's gone hunting with the similarly invisible Simon Lusk.

I’m not one to spite the face, but part of me thinks it would be poetic justice for those who would blindly vote for crooks if they think it makes themselves feel richer, to have a financial hard landing of some sort.
The hard landing is probably on the way as the housing bubble can't last forever. Election time always makes me wonder how many sheep we really have in the country.
