  • Hard News: Ideology for Evidence,

if an employee is really completely rubbish, demonstrably so, and has been formally warned about their crapness (no, I know that isn't a real word), can they not be fired legitimately? Really, I'm curious.

Yes they can. We used to give 3 warnings(all could be issued at 48 hour intervals if behaviour continued to warrant warning. then we could dismiss with the weeks wages (they were paid weekly) + 6% annual leave. as it was casual/ part time employment or some managers just weaned them out of work by not giving them any shifts. (Oz company getting around their own oz practices) but would also stress there was other areas of addressing issues before warning, like we actually made sure the person was stable, first and training was paramount to ensure staff were willing and able to work.My biggest regret was getting uni student staff to work late, long shifts around Xmas when we knew exams were being done.
We worked hard and long but wouldn't say anyone had a miserable time at our shop. Hell, I stayed with that company for 14 years.Even though it was Australian!

  • Hard News: Ideology for Evidence,

    Autopsy?

May as well be. Have you ever tried to get tests recommended to and by, your doctor, if he suspects your ailment to require tests? They have 6 months to get in touch, via public health system.Does that make it useless legislation?

  • Hard News: Ideology for Evidence,

So, when you call in sick, the sick person goes to doc. There seems to be the assumption (from National) that the boss will pay up front so as not to cause difficulty with reimbursements. Bollocks. By the time you go get money from the boss, go to the doc, you may as well stay at work sick. That is a probable outcome. I guess if there is no doctor's certificate, (just try fit in an appointment that day and if you can get out of bed) you may be fired without explanation, or have sick day become holiday used. Another probable outcome.
It's always bollocks with this lot.How much more can they manipulate out of the everyday person . Nasty.
I know when I was in management, no money was ever available to take out of the till.

    along with 31% injecting.

That must be looking for the high that was. Injecting, moving straight through the blood stream is pretty fast no? Can't get much faster, so must be a recommendation by the frequent flyers.
That's when you see people turning all jelly like, literally wobbly. Ye gads!

Not to say that methamphetamine isn't a problem - Perhaps if we're speaking illegal drugs only then meth would be number 1.

Doubt it.Number 1 would be Cannabis after alcohol. Cannabis by far disrupts our courts (if that's what you mean). So many petty appearances for a joint or whatever the cops can conjour up( value is often misguided to say the least). The Court is where they produce stats about busts/crime. I know of quite a few bullshit cases gone before the courts. Quantities is often an issue, in that it is not accurate.Quantities reveals severity, i.e it must be bad.. Without the "evil"weed, what's a cop gonna do?Maybe the important stuff for a start.

  • Up Front: Something Chronic,

Often thought, that people in general are always expected to be happy, happy, joy, joy, when this is obviously impossible. Many friends have tried Prozac (or equivalent) just because they think this is meant to be, or that society expects it of them. That is a lot of pressure on anyone.

And clearly we need a PAS cook-off at some point....

No Stephen we don't. I'd hate to show you up. It would be too cruel ;)
