Polity: Leaving only footprints, in reply to
And stop shitting in the woods.
And in the sand dunes.
Seen this at one of the few beach side, vehicle accessible DOC camps.
When challenged (because I am that way inclined) Young Fraulein declared that the roll of toilet paper under her arm was to dry her hands after washing them in the tide. Why she had her breeches and undies at half-mast and was mid squat when accosted by moi went unexplained until the DOC ranger extracted the $6 per head camping fee from her and her two van mates. (The simple expedient, of blocking their vehicle with his DOC ute.) It transpired that the (perfectly acceptable) long drop toilets were not to her liking...preferred flushing toilets thank you very much! The irony was that had she wandered 60 meters along the track to the day parking area she would have found her excretory paradise.
I say charge a flat fee for tourists. Its hard to hike with a wheelchair in tow, but we do frequent vehicle accessible DOC sites. We pay about $170 per year for a pass through our club for the privilege of camping on DOC land. So many tourists don't pay, won't pay and share tips on how to avoid paying.
Get them at the border.

Unfortunately, it's not really a sport for the vision impaired,

A friend, who has a weakness for morning telly, suggested I watch today's Paul Henry show. I begged for mercy...but she insisted.
And, sure enough, there was Our Leader being put on a hot griddle by Henry over Pharmac not funding Keytruda.
We live in the melanoma epicentre, and New Zealanders are dying today. (6:30 -10:30)
"You could make a call today, John...."
He did do that possum in the headlight thing for a while, then obfuscated for a bit...but Henry kept at it...and OL did NOT deny that a phonecall from him could would sort it.

Hard News: Helen Kelly's letter, in reply to
The Ministry’s approach is, in my view, an abuse of power, and the more strongly they are called on it the better.
The Misery of Health has a track record
"We are acutely aware that trust is not something that is present in the Ministry of Health at present – indeed the concerning feedback from colleagues working in the Ministry is the very dysfunctional interactions within that organisation at many levels," she said.
"At present, the ongoing time-consuming, negative interactions with the Ministry leaders is sapping the time and energy that we should be using to innovate and plan for best patient care."

50/50 THC/CBD in conjunction with radiotherapy for brain tumours – is quite an attention-grabber.
and, also, high dose Vit C prior to radiotherapy
They found that high dose vitamin C by itself caused DNA damage and cell death which was much more pronounced when high dose vitamin C was given just prior to radiation.
Herst says GBM patients have a poor prognosis because the aggressive GBM tumours are very resistant to radiation therapy. "We found that high dose vitamin C makes it easier to kill these GBM cells by radiation therapy".
Unfortunately, Vitamin C is another treatment on Big Pharma's hate list.

Unless they were residing isolated in a dark cave, a politically aware ‘maze bright’ bureaucrat would have seen HK’s application coming from a mile away.
They would have known that Helen simply does not give up. And, that she will do her work for social justice in a very public way.
An intelligent bureaucrat would have sat around a table with Those Who Can Make This Happen and said…"sooner or later NZ will have to approve applications like this…why not let this pesky woman have a win here and expedite this? Or we are going to look like a miserable bunch of a’ holes who are making this personal."
Unless it is.

Access: Social media, disability…, in reply to
It would be good to hear why they disliked this Maths Professor so much.
Hmmm...he could be standing in line to throw squeaky toys at the Prime Minister but that would probably not be grounds to deny residence. (unless of course he actually threw one and hit the mark:-))
Having a disability in the family is a sure fire thing.

Hard News: Helen Kelly's letter, in reply to
The ministry’s response.
We have similar letters on Misery Of Health letterhead saying basically the same thing.
"You have not provided us with sufficient information in a form that we require.
The fact that we have failed to specify the exact criteria and the exact information we require to process your application is your fault, not ours. So, tough shit."We, with the help of a MOH contractor, put in numerous applications for funding for a particular piece of equipment. They would have funded, quite happily, a more expensive piece of equipment, one that was in their 'book'...but that piece of equipment would not have been fit for the purpose intended. For numerous reasons...all of which we had to go into with extraordinary detail. We needed Doctors letters and OT letters and even support from CYF (because we were foster parents at the time).
This process took 18 months.
When I heard that Helen had to apply to the Misery of Health for this...I thought..my god...she hasn't got 18 months.
I get that there are protocols Russell....but make no mistake about this...the Ministry of Health has an army of petty minded bureaucrats that simply love this kind of thing.
Even if every single box had been ticked and every single minutiae had been covered they would have bounced this application back.
Because that's just who they are.
Kia Kaha ,Helen.
Try again...

Access: Social media, disability…, in reply to
But the state’s hatred and fear of disability
And that's exactly it.
It's not about the cost to the nation to provide supports to these less than perfect wannabe New Zealanders. If it were, then I can come up with about $50 million that the government has budgeted for disability supports through either the Miserly of Health or the Muddly of Education that has not been spent.
Please don't make me put up a list of links...there's FFC...approx $36million underspend, then Special Ed underspend, and I'm quite happy for the $$$ the government has saved for Peter's supports for the past 17 years to be counted (about $1.1 million) to go into the pot....and that's just us.
No...this government hates disabled people...simple as that.
My dream?
Thousands of disabled Kiwis assembled outside of Parliament...demanding that the Convention be ratified and NZBORA applies to all.
Demanding...because asking respectfully has not worked.

And, here's ....
Another we don't like your kind around here story.
An award-winning Auckland University mathematics professor will leave the country after his residency application was rejected because of his stepson's autism.
Once I saw that Immigration New Zealand had decided it is above the UN convention of human rights, it is difficult for me to decide to raise my children here. For me the New Zealand story ends.
The bold is mine.
This is not the New Zealand that I want to live in either.
