  • Legal Beagle: David Garrett wins,

    Can you explain this? -

    3. limiting strikes to offending punished in the indictable jurisdiction – if offending is serious enough to count as a strike, the prosecution and courts should treat it seriously.

    I don't understand it.

  • OnPoint: Google to Embargo China,

    @giovanni:

Somebody alerted me to this earlier this morning - Things to remember while helping Haiti. Enjoy.

We also need to help them embrace Jesus. Those naughty Haitians made a pact with the devil, back in the day, to help them overthrow the French, and things like this will just keep happening until they turn their back on Satan.

    Pat Robertson..who else?

  • Speaker: Towards a realistic drug policy,

It's probably a safe bet that all NZ mass murderers had used alcohol, but that would be a correlation, not a cause.

I bet most of them were exposed to weetbix as children too!

  • Speaker: Towards a realistic drug policy,

The argument is a lot simpler.

    Its my body. Not yours.

Noone should be able to dictate what I can or cannot consume, regardless of the harm to myself if I so choose

And we should privatise the health system, so that you don't get care if you don't have insurance and can't meet the cost of treatment yourself...

    ...right?

  • Speaker: Towards a realistic drug policy,

legally permitting adults the option of using a demonstratively safer drug – like cannabis – instead.

The last word here is the magic one: "instead".

Why do you think that people would take up cannabis as a replacement for alcohol? It seems more likely to me that cannabis would be a replacement for nicotine, and people would smoke it as well as drinking.

What do the studies say about combining cannabis with alcohol?

  • Hard News: See you Latta, Bob ...,

"All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident"

I really hate that Schopenhauer quote, it misses out that fact that all lies also pass through those first two stages.

    Attributed to Carl Sagan:

"But the fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown."

  • Hard News: The March for Democracy,

[The SST] do[es] precious little support work that anyone sees, but plenty of political advocacy.

You can have a look at their goals. Lots of stuff about changing legislation. Nothing involving providing help or support for actual victims of crime.

  • Hard News: The March for Democracy,

@Rich: Well, I haven't been following the stories, but I'll offer an explanation: prior to 9-11, the FBI were lazy, cheap, or both. Thousands of flight schools in the US? Too much effort.

When 9-11 happened, they panicked, and were desperate to show themselves as on the job, so they rushed out agents. They got lucky by turning up at one relevant school in a few hours, but maybe they had the ability to get to any school within a day or two. So "lucky" could have been "today, not tomorrow".

Shit, we're missing something. don't we need Templars for it to be a "proper" conspiracy theory?

Don't forget the Trilateral Commission and the Club of Rome. They all hold regular meetings at the secret Illuminati base in Area 51.
