I agree with Tim; Angus both of your very narrow definitions of harassment imply that actions perceived as harassment must be protracted.

The "first attempt" by a man (or woman) to impose themselves upon an uninterested party can be totally intimidatory/annoying/offensive enough to constitute harassment. How can you not get that?

  • Speaker: What Diversity Dividend?,

This is the country that took in the Tampa refugees when Howard was attempting to milk political capital from the issue in "multicultural" Australia

I had a lift from an Auckland taxi driver who was one of the Tampa people... true to good old NZ recognition of overseas qualifications a high level financial/economic analyst in Afghanistan gets to drive a cab in Auckland

Maybe financial analysts don't have the same kudos in 2009 as they did in 2007, still it's the vibe of the thing

Someone really needs to explain to me what the point of CIR is

And me.... I was going to say "Isn't an election every three years a mandate for declared policies so what's the purpose of CIRs..." and then I realised I was channeling Rodney Hide!

Just shoot me now....or perhaps a "light"' bullet to the head as part of good correction might be more appropriate

I seem to remember that Labour were also running the line before the election that there was no point to a referendum until the law change had a chance to be tested... even though it is now obvious to everyone except Larry Baldock and Bob whatshishandle that the question has absolutely nothing to do with the repeal of that section (and Labour knew that at the time one assumes but how could they convince the irate masses)

When the initial howling and chest beating hooha was happening, the referedum question was considered to be about the law change. Now I find myself torn by the hideousness of the whole thing but I guess I'll go with yes

The Gnome Party has a certain ring to it.

I dunno, we already had the Rogergnomes and look where that got us...

If only he'd stuck to poking his rod into a goldfish pond rather than the economy....

anyone who owned a British car in the 80s compulsorily had to learn a great deal of maintenance skills just to keep the bloody things going.

    Like these or these?

Oh crikey, yeah I guess saying you owned it in the eighties implied the car was from the eighties.... those 80s models were just shockers, I preferred the 50s and 60s models (column change and only three forward gears anyone?)

The ones I can remember were : crafts, public speaking, walking, entertaining, self-presentation (which was how to put on make-up and have good posture) and out of left field - flying.

Flying? Maybe they thought women would be needed in the air corp to defend our shores should our brave lads be overseas fighting ze enemy

This list is very dubious, judging by how many of the criteria I meet I guess I could consider myself an honorary man. I blame my dad; he always wanted a boy and I spent my childhood trekking around wrecking yards. However, although I can competently do about three quarters of the stuff on that list , I am most definitely not a man.

I agree with Islander, its more about being an adult, than man or woman skills. For example I can do all the automotive stuff but how unusual is that - anyone who owned a British car in the 80s compulsorily had to learn a great deal of maintenance skills just to keep the bloody things going. Still love the old Vauxhalls though. Bring back tail fins I say! mmmm

Torque wrench is used to apply correct pressures after replacing ahead gasket. If you tighten too much can split the gasket!

  • Hard News: Swine flu, terror and Susan Boyle,

As a newbie but sometime lurker I have to admire the ability a few of the regulars, e.g. Danielle, Giovanni, Sacha, Sofie, Russell and others have to pull the conversation back from quibbling over minutiae to topical discussion. Sometimes it seems like an insurmountable task but somehow you manage to get the train back on the rails - impressive

Apologies if I sound like a fangirl but PAS is a real breath of fresh air
