  • Hard News: The Greening,

An aquaintance works for the agency that does VW's advertising. They're doing campaigns around how green their "BlueMotion" vehicles are, yet VW have just released the R50 Touareg into NZ, a top-of-the-range V10 monster of a 4X4, and are about to launch their fastest ever vehicle, the R32 Passat. Which sorta undermines their eco-cred, wouldn't you say?

It's all just so much lipservice for so many companies, a marketing tool; tick the wee box marked 'green', then resume business as normal.

  • Hard News: Psst! Got any Earl Grey?,

Watch the other Brasseye episodes too, you wont be diasppointed.

    seconded.

without wishing to detract from the brilliance of Media Lunch. You can see where a lot of their ideas came from....in a good way.

    Thirded.

The 'Paedogeddon' episode is one of the most hilarious pieces of television ever, an extremely black-humoured satire of the way in which the media whips itself (and the public) into a frenzy of moral outrage. All the more funny, since that was precisely the effect the episode had in the UK. Chris Morris a genius - watch 'Nathan Barley' (all eps on YouTube) for further evidence

  • Hard News: New on the Street,

Wait, so this North and South Chev thing actually has some longevity? At least the digital divide has been breached, I suppose.

Yeah, it's like The Simpsons episode with Old v. New Springfield.

__I'm on Wainui Ave btw, one over from Meola.__

Flash git. Although we South of Meola peasants did used to cackle over your especially bad broadband up North as we scavenged for food scraps and rags to wear ...

    Ha! Inter-Chev snobbery eh...

  • Hard News: New on the Street,

About frickin' time. As a Point Chev resident, I've come within a hair's breadth of destroying both computer and modem out of sheer frustration at the naffness of our broadband over the years.

I have to say though, I've noticed an improvement to the speed/quality over the last month or so, obviously before connection to the new cabinets. I'm sure I've not been imagining it, since compared to how godawful it used to be, it's been running like a dream.

Can you shed any light on that Russell (or any other Chevites), or am I perhaps suffering from some blissful delusion in anticipation of having broadband speeds that shit all over the rest of the country? I'm on Wainui Ave btw, one over from Meola.

  • Cracker: Fear Factor,

Good on ya Damian - but was it an attempt at irony, following up a bold statement about journalistic integrity by giving oxygen to that waste of oxygen Lohan? I hope so guy...leave that unnecessary malarkey to the Welsh chap from the Herald.
    Best of luck

Ah, the Chev, how I love thee. How I love havin brekkie on my deck overlooking Meola Creek on a lazy Sunday morning. How I love summer barbies & footie down in Coyle Park. How I love Sage's lamb madras. How I fucking hate it when my DSL connection goes slower than England v South Africa, or just bloody crashes and burns altogether

As an Englishman with very little interest in rugby, it has caused me a good deal of amusement to watch New Zealand search the very depths of its soul over the last two weeks as it attempts to come to terms with the unthinkable. I thought to myself, "How sad, that a nation should emotionally invest so heavily in a sport they arrogantly believe to be their divine right to be the best in, only for it all to come crashing down around their ears." Pure hubris.

And then of course, my laughable excuse for a football team (soccer if you must) goes and royally fucks its chances of qualification for Euro 2008, and I'm left with little choice but to empathise, and backtrack on all the grief I've given to my friends in the last fortnight.

And for the record, if we do win the final, it just goes to show rotten to the core rugby is as a sport, when the game's ugliest exponents can triumph despite their dearth of talent or imagination. Ah well, at least there's always the league. Oh, wait...
