The police think they have something, but the spin control seems to be breaking down alreasy.
From a media management point of view they lost the debate today. the airwaves where full of questioning voices.
Police minister looked confident though.
What could they have other than rash words and some rifles?
Hmm.

Bail revoked.

Let me try and explain why you say nowt when the police ask thus.
Once upon a time, back in the old country during the 1984-1985 miners strike, an group of activists was captured on film helping to organise a push into the police lines.
You could see their faces, hear them shout, was first on the news.
Cops had them bang to rights.
But they said nothing.
Four months later case comes to court, the activists were looking at two years. Prosecution moves to submit the tape the whole country had seen, defence objects. Defence demands that if the police introduce video then the defence must see all of the police tapes of the event (with all of the footage of the Yorkshire plods battering the picket line for 3 hours)
Prosecution withdraws it's request for tapes, no case, everyone walks.
Shhhhh.

Russel, it is also possible that a bunch of police informers cooked up the whole thing.
A few beers, a few rash statements, informer gets a hold of a few rusty guns while the cops watch every move.
Just as likely, and since anyone who was really involved would be keeping quiet (as they should) all bomber would have is gossip.

The fact that the judge just allowed the first detained person bail due to "lack of evidence" is not a good sign for the police.

First person bailed
"Judge Josephine Bouchier said that on the evidence before her at the moment, Lockett could not be considered to pose such a significant danger to the public that he should be in custody."

I can sort of see the cops getting nervous about Maori activists clambering around the hills, and about some anarcho greenies planning to disrupt happy valley or whatever.
What escapes me is how these two divergent groups could be linked together. They do not seem like natural allies.

It sort of, kind of, doesn't make any sense. Wellington and Auckland Lefties+Maori Militia.
Sounds too much like a Paul Holmes wet dream to be true.
