  • Voting Local 2010,

And yet if you collect a pension you must not be out of NZ for more than 6 months, otherwise you lose it. Whether you spent your life earning it or not.

My Dad dealt with that on his return from an annual holiday. He ended up at Phil Goff's office and I must admit he did achieve some satisfaction but did emphasize his displeasure at being treated as a child with restrictions on his travel. There is a provision in certain countries that NZ will grant the pension to one outside the normal regime but that has to be addressed before travel commences.

  • Voting Local 2010,

I start by crossing out anyone with "C&R" next to their name.

Yes, I found this to be a great start!

  • Voting Local 2010,

Interesting is one way to describe how many candidates describe themselves as "independent" rather than acknowledge long-standing affiliations. Dishonest might be another..

Well there is that, but at the same time it just requires a bit of study as to get to know some of these people plus also they (some) give themselves away a bit by how they present themselves. Words like authority, graffiti, roads are quite good indicators for me that they hate the yoof or want to control something. Examples of their past does help to see what side they like their bread buttered also. I'm not so worried if a person claims to be independent, for some it's definitely a little shifty, but what the hey.

Except to try and design an electoral system that will guarantee their favoured candidate success, or if that seems too slow, just sack the council, cancel elections and appoint commissioners.

And all in the first term. Fancy that.

Oh well I fucked it up then. Boo.

Nah hun, as long as you chose anyone but city rats, it's all good in my book and if you did then that's that and we won't discuss it in the future ;-)
Just imagine if your vote was the deciding factor between 7 city rats or 3 city vision and 4 independents. Then everyone I know would really appreciate your efforts, if it was the latter.

  • Voting Local 2010,

I'm immensely pissed off that you have to vote for 7 people for the DHB - only four standing of whom were City Vision. So I had to vote for 3 people that I didn't even know.

I thought as long as you voted for one, it was up to you to vote for as many as you liked . Just as long as you put 1 as first choice in DHB candidates then the rest in your preferred order as many as you want up to 18. For example I voted for everyone but city rats, so my numbers went up to 10. just as you could have picked just 3. Still I've already opened my envelope once now so can't do it again to check for you or it might look suspicious. :)
