The legal system is just another part of the bureaucracy. It should be working for the good of us all.

My mother's mother took her own photos and hand coloured them. She coloured beautiful photos of her four daughters (the oldest born in 1915). Here is a copy of one of her photos from the 1920s but unfortunately the colours have faded and it is not a good reproduction. Some of the blue can still be seen.
My mother is standing left, with her three sisters. Would be late 1920s. Their mother, the photographer died in 1930 of breast cancer, so a precious image. -

Haven't been there enough to comment really. It all seems rather waffly so far.

Dropped by Court Room 6 at the Wellington High Court to see how the court case about is proceeding and caught the last half hour of the week's discussion. They were going on about restraint guidelines and other aspects of the Mental Health Act and IDCC&R Act. Rachel Daysh from the Ministry of Health was explaining stuff. It is really important stuff and fascinating legal issues they are discussing. Definitely worth coming along if you have time. The case is likely to go for another few weeks. They don't sit every day but there is a notice inside the main entrance of the High Court about all the cases on at the moment and whether they are sitting that day, and that is also available online.

Don't know about it but it looks like a provider group.

Margaret Wilson was one of the cleverest and most courageous political leaders we have ever had, whether as party president, Minister or Speaker, and a brilliant legal brain. She probably threatened mediocre male MPs more than any other woman MP. She just did not play their games. Not surprising the comments upthread.

I have dropped by a couple of times but the court doesn't seem to be sitting very often so haven't actually seem much of it. There are one or two regulars and I had a good talk to one of them today. He's a survivor of the mental health system so had some good insights. Court was at site visits today and yesterday. I would love to follow the whole thing but don't have a spare 6 weeks.

Hard News: On the Clark candidacy, in reply to
My memory of the list was that Tariana got a high list placing because of Helen Clark's influence - or so the rumour went. It was quite surprising at the time.

I think it is right to say that Tariana and Helen were good friends from the time of Tariana's high list placing in 1996? until the Seabed and Foreshore thing had them falling out in a big way. Reflecting perhaps the Jim Anderton Helen Clark falling out in the late 1980s which was later healed. So perhaps now they are both older they have improved their relationship again, or at least have a grudging respect for each other.

Yes I noticed those, especially as the audience only looks at their backs. I thought they would be very tricky gowns to sew.
