BSA says Mike Hosking misled voters with comments on Māori Party
Mike Hosking misled Seven Sharp viewers when he told them they couldn't vote for the Māori Party if they weren't Māori, the Broadcasting Standards Authority has found.
...
Hosking attempted to clarify his comment the following evening, saying, "the fact that anyone can vote for [the Māori Party] as a list party I automatically assumed we all knew given we have been doing this for 20 years… and it went without saying. So hopefully that clears all of that up."
However the BSA said the clarification was "flippant" and too general to correct the inaccurate information for viewers.
"The incorrect statements made by Mr Hosking were presented at a critical time, when voters required accurate information to enable them to make informed voting decisions. In this case, the flippant apology provided did not reflect a genuine appreciation for the important role of media during this time," the BSA said in its decision....and someone will head south until this whole thing cools off...

Given the neologism is such a blatant derivative of a globally recognised precedent
Damn there goes Jacindagate!

I note ‘Phrase of the Year’ has crept into the ‘Word of the Year’ finalists…
Surely this is beyond the pale?
Only the unitary purity of a single word should contest – portmanteau and compound words (like ’Schweinefleischetikettierungsüberwachung-saufgabenübertragungsgesetz’* – but in English, natch!)
should be the limit – it’s lexically logical.
or does it change to WaPotY?* “legislative law for the monitoring of pork-meat labelling.”
(and hyphenated above as it extends into invisibility otherwise) -
a recent revelation to me

Hard News: The hard road to a…, in reply to
We really do need to change our culture.
Here in Chchch, they are going to start fining people for parking on the grass berms – even on the streets (like ours) that they narrowed by almost two metres to create the new wider berms – this widening also makes a once easily traversable street effectively one way if there are cars parked on both sides (or you have to go at a crawl to pass oncoming cars and not take off wing mirrors) – no room for cyclists on this road and the new pavements are hard up against the property frontage so iittle leeway for cars emerging to avoid passersby .
Hard to know what they were aiming for with all the ‘improvements’ – no one has gained anything but more weed laden berms to mow for the council.
