now imagine growing up in a country where *everyone* can do that.
I didn't realise you were of Dutch extraction too Gio!

Nope, sorry, they stopped being cool a little over an hour ago.
I knew I should have checked twitter.

It's a dangerous weapon you have Emma. My parents taught me how to argue and how to win arguments. What they didn't teach me was when to use those skills. Why didn't my flat mates want to argue for four hours about whether the milk should be on the third or fourth shelf???
In my work I've been criticized for being articulate because my ability to explain my projects gave me an unfair advantage over those who couldn't clearly articulate what they were planning to do with the money. Interestingly that criticism was accepted as fair.
As for your issue with swearing in the US. You were facing two issues, yes they are puritans, but what you actually needed was a man to repeat what you just said to make it worth listening to, and yes I have been in meetings where precisely that has occurred. Female presents idea, idea ignored, male repeats what she said, idea brilliant. In this case being articulate didn't help her - she didn't even swear!

Hey it's friday and no-one has posted this u-tube
I never get to post music videos because ... well ... as we've establish I'm a music dunce and like Little Feat. But The Tings Tings are cool ... right? Aren't they? Or is that over already ....
Edit: Damnit they don't allow this one to be embedded!

(unlike, say, Christian Cullen, who could hold his own in conversation with Wittgenstein)
Actually part-Samoan, not that that has anything to do with his rather dim bulb ...
Does anyone know if he ever did find the Eiffel tower on his trip to London?

That ukulele clip was brilliant.
It is just impossible to listen to them and not smile, which is a great way to end the week. Thanks Russell and Gemma.

By far the state with the highest usage of porn in those circumstances was Utah.
Well of course. What you aren't factoring in is that they don't do coffee and that means the only way to stay awake in an airport hotel is to watch porn.
perfectly reasonable don't you agree?

All right I'll post a copy of the rules for scrabble/sex as soon as Emma sends the copy I lent her back.

caught my cat in the bathroom sink last night, licking the taps
Woke up one night to the sound of our cat lapping water from my wife's bedside water glass. That did kind of explain why my bedside glass was always empty when I couldn't remember drinking it.
Two changes - water bottles by the bedside - try drinking out of that!
And after some reading discovered that the water bowl beside the food bowl thing isn't so good for cats. Apparently they like their water source to be away from their food source.
However, I'm not sure that the glass of water that is on our coffee table for our cat is entirely the best solution. Did I mention we are a bit soft :).

it's so tiresome to be pigeonholed
But if they can pigeonhole you then they don't have to treat your opinions as if they were from a real person.
As for paying for single episodes. That will depend on a change in bandwidth most likely, that really is all that is needed all the other technology around security of payment already exists. As soon as bandwidth gets big enough to allow a quality episode to be delivered it will happen.
The alternative method is also fairly easy as more people use a set top box (freeview or sky) to view TV. Those boxes could easily only decode if you have a key code that you pay for in the spot.
What I think is interesting is what that would do to the market model. Essentially instead of TV Zektivs deciding what is or is not valuable, value would simply depend on sales. "broadcasters" would become more like book publishers. Entry cost would still be the limiting factor but as web shows are demonstrating entry cost can be very low.
