There was a great discussion a few years back on the ABC's Australia Talks Back , on Radio National, hosted by Sandy McCutcheon, on the subject of the f-word. A guy called with a story about how he'd been a fire warden in a small North Coast NSW town as a teenager during WW2. He was given a tin hat emblazoned with the letters FW. Everyone he met on his rounds would smirk, and he'd smirk back. The ones he enjoyed most were the little old ladies whose vocabularies one wouldn't assume would have included the word f*ckwit.

Kind of helps to spot the reassuring glow of a burning cross out there on the edge of the neighbourhood. Puts things in perspective.

Squee! A Japanese adaptation of a 16th century satirical Chinese fantasy novel, dubbed into English by the BBC (with 13 episodes not dubbed until 2004 due to 'inappropriate content') -- what's not to love?
Squee indeed! Great cast, ripping multilayered plots (the monk's horse was really a river monster doing penance for having eaten the original horse), B-grade Hong Kong-style fx done with Japanese polish, all the great cosmic crassness of the original - Monkey was the Mt Everest of "kiddie" TV. If this show had a formula it was certainly plundered by Hercules/Xena.

He might have got it a bit wrong (the sooner our forums upgrade comes through and lets me close old threads, the better) but I think he was acting in good faith.

Curd Nerd was able to oblige, albeit over 2 years later. At least the link he gave was working last night. While all I know of The Gumps is gleaned from Curd Nerd's link, the name of their supposed creator, Mark D'Arcy-Irvine, is certainly familiar from my years in the lost world of Australian industrial animation.

...but really once our transient standing waves have collapsed back into the unified field background noise (and all our monoliths and constructed conceits are regolith anything coming after us will probably want to forge its own way and not be led into the evolutionary cul de sacs, blind alleys and box canyons that we have explored and championed.
Perhaps they'll toy with our coproliths.

Does it matter? They can get as ripped as chooks and attempt all manner of hijinks, all the while protesting their admiaration/contempt/whatever for one another's professional standards, but they'll never be Alan Bollard.
