  • Southerly: Tower Insurance Have Some Bad…, in reply to Sacha,

t is unlikely the Government will deem any area so badly damaged it must be abandoned.

Mr Brownlee said yesterday that no area was too damaged to be fixed.

“All land can be repaired,” he said.

And there I see it all in a nutshell, Throughout this process, Demolition have been given the scavenging rights, Certain developers will be given contracts too I bet, with the reasoning that the land is worthless so the need for the fire sale. Then, the land will be deemed repairable at lightening speed and we will see rows of ticky, tacky mcmansions (no state housing) on the River Avon. And we will see more editorials about how lucky all the Cantabrians are because the city is better than it ever was. There will even be enough space in one of the red zones now ready for a stadium. The Rugby World cup will prove the need for one. Rates will go up, insurance is up, real estate will skyrocket.
People and their feelings do not play a part in any of these solutions. They, never did. This is almost psychosocial manipulation or somesuch. They do not care, because you are not a dollar bill. you are now merely an inconvenience. You have become part of the fire sale.
    Jesus Christ on a stick!

But we do all die Sach. I don't know when I will, but it will happen, and reading today (3rd time this last month) over hundreds are still alive and healthy, so not everyone who dies tomorrow/next day is old. Accidents can be tragic, death maybe not. Education is what helps anywhere, anytime, Public Transport I say.
I can't remember who said this but it has stuck ever since and if anything happens to me,accident or not, I will always have nice knickers on :)

  • Hard News: What the kids do, in reply to chris,

Why thunk you Chris. I'll blame my parents for that. And I never saw lotsa booze or cigarettes around them or their hippy friends. Odd bit of vino and what I learn't later, my Dad did partake. And another thing I know was, there was always a way around 10pm closing, back in the olds days. And gambling. Ahh, Prohibition. Can bring out some fascinating stories. We human animals live in a survival of the fittest society.
Could the Kings kids be, because they live up to the comfortable end of the spectrum, with all that the trimmings supply, simply, have less survival instinct, and get noticed more via their known surname when, they die. That and not so bright, Silver spoon possibly?

  • Hard News: What the kids do, in reply to Russell Brown,

You’re better off with proper drugs, frankly.

    Liking this too.:)
    Coat getting now.....
    in a minute
When a teenager tells me that they are smokin' or taking eccies, I tend to ask them, what they think of it. My dreadlocks tend to have teens relax around me and quite comfortable to chat about drugs. I ask them if they like it, how they know when they have had enough or do they know, or do they feel pressured from friends to indulge. Alcohol is their biggest issue for pressure and the drugs are for special occasions. Vodka seems popular for them thinking it is odourless. Alcohol is consumed more frequently because it is legal. Some prefer a smoke but because it's illegal, tend to drink more.I find it interesting that they use a bong over papers. When I asked why, they think it's not as bad as straight out smoking. Better for their lungs. Parents I know from the wealthier suburbs are happy to supply alcohol because they falsely think it deters them from anything else that is illegal, and they can join in and make themselves happy and popular amongst the kids. Also parents with a fully stocked bar tend to miss the odd bottle disappearing during the weekend as they are socialising with their friends and the kids are gone to a party (with the bottles) which probably ends up at another house with a fully stocked bar. The kids are surrounded by this one legal drug. But I think they are well aware of the situations they put themselves in.They are watching it everywhere.

If this site had favourites/like buttons, I would "like" this comment of RoO's about a squillion times.
