In any disagreement with a public agency, you will be better served if you are articulate, literate and persuasive.
The time I made my Income Support caseworker get the book off the shelf and look up the law that stated that I was eligible for the dole is a tremendous example of this sort of privilege in action.

Fortunately defending a faulty premise with dazzling rhetoric doesn't usually make anyone look smart for all that long. Though due to esprit d'escalier one may never actually find out what ones 'victims' really think.

Our cats used to drink out of the toilet too right up until when our oldest child was a toddler who liked throwing toothbrushes down there. By the time we were game to unlock the lid the moggies had lost the habit.

I think a goodly part of the reason I like cats so much is that if one sticks around you really feel like you have earned the privilege of caring for it. This is borne out by the stray cats who have adopted me and the immense love they give once part of the family. Current case-in-point Hermes about whom I must post a lot as evidenced by a recent visitor exclaiming "is that the Facebook cat?"

Am I the only one who wants to sing The best the net can be to the tune of the Gillette - the best a man can get jingle?

You wanna talk vet bills? we have one cat who is diabetic, one with impaired kidney function and a third who we are currently investigating for arthritis!
Hermes, the one with the dodgy kidneys, survived being hit by a train about six years ago.
Our vet is going to have a very nice retirement on us.

When I was a little kid one of our favourite family walks was to the old Atawhai cemetery in Nelson. I loved poking around and pondering about the lives and deaths of the people buried there. The very best grave (at least from a small girl's viewpoint) was that of a Russian princess.
