It’s not a mission to Mars

No it isn't. A Mars mission is just solving engineering and biological problems and getting the money.

A rational sensible data driven approach to mind altering drugs would require people to change their minds.

    Aren't those placements somewhat subjective?

    Ya think!

On a graph with no scale!

These kinds of graphs really really piss me off because they are so common in management bullcrap.

Essentially this is just someone's guess. It may or may not be an educated guess but it still a guess. Because most folks don't take guesses seriously they put the guess on a fake graph to make it look like data. When challenged they resort to "it's just a representation, don't take it literally".

The OP should be ashamed of trying such a cheap tactic on this audience.

I have no problem with him guessing. I even am happy that it might be an educated guess.

But abusing graphical representation of data to try and fool folks into taking his guess as anything more significant is unacceptable bullcrap.

But. Most abusers are bullies. ...

That’s dead right – well said.

Which goes to another real problem with NZ society. Bullying is an accepted, even encouraged behaviour. We're doing something wrong as a society and the consequences are horrible.

    quite literally men

And because my brain can't help it now I want to know what a figurative man is ... there is probably a really obvious boring answer but I really want there to be some fantastical answer.

  • Up Front: Dear Dudebros, in reply to Gregor Ronald,

    “Why insist on bad sex?”

One answer is that it usually takes people a while to discover "good sex". By that I mean even if folks read everything on the internet - and their brains don't melt out their ears - they still won't know what they like and it's unlikely they will have met a partner willing to explore until they can figure it out.

So for someone who has no idea what good sex is then any sex becomes the goal - in a sense it's a race to the bottom.

That's why really good sex education would/should include practical courses.

  • Up Front: Dear Dudebros,

How do you stop the "not all men" without making the ones who try feel like shit - and give up.

The feeling like shit is OK, women suffer much more so feeling like shit is part of the deal - it's the giving up.

George Bennet did well to finish the road race without any bone fractures.

“That was the most brutal day I’ve been through.” says a guy who completed the 3,500km Tour de France just two weeks ago.

Ayup, that course was just plain nasty - cobblestones!!! and the foot deep gutters on the downhills plus brutal climbs to make sure you're in oxygen debt on those technical downhills.

When the last defender fouls an attacker who would otherwise have a clear shot at goal, they referee

pfft see now that's what a football fan would say but, we know it's just the ref awarding points for artistic impression.

  • Hard News: All right, then – take me to Rio,

I kind of like this early phase of the Olympics, sports you don't normally see, a lot less hype and everyone seems to be having fun - exhausting, soul shattering fun but still fun.

Even the (lack of) crowds* that is always the case seem to make it more about the athletes.

*bloody corporates buy all the tickets and then the bastards don't bother going.
