I don't think anyone was saying that Hokitika is South Westland. Sacha was just reassuring me that it isn't only Northland finding the weather unseasonably warm.

Glad to hear that we are not alone. But it also feels quite strange and a little worrying. We usually have to start using heating from the start of April and haven't even used it once yet this year. While I am sure there would be plenty of people saying that's great and you shouldn't complain on some little nagging level underneath it feels kind of worrying. May isn't supposed to be like this.
Guess it's just a typical human dislike of a changed/unusual situation.

Wow sure looks like the South Island and the bottom of the North Island look set to receive a battering. Certainly accounts for the different experiences people are reporting.

Been 22 degrees here today. Feels like the start of autumn not winter. I know Whangarei is relatively warm but still everyone I know is saying how it's been the warmest May they can remember. In my ignorant bubble I had assumed that everyone else was also enjoying an unseasonably warm may.

Today driving through town I saw something I had never seen before. Men standing on roundabouts holding up signs saying 'Looking for work'. These are the type of images Labour should be using, along with all the vacant buildings covered in For Lease signs throughout the city centre of my town. I imagine other towns are no different.

I also think there certainly is a place for sequels by different authors. For example I have been a keen reader of the Wheel of Time series and when the author, Robert Jordan, died there was a raging debate among the fandom about whether the series should be completed or not.
I, along with most readers, were pleased that they chose to complete it with a different author. And the author, Brandon Sanderson, I think has chosen the right path where he said he wouldn't try to mimic Jordan's writing style but would endeavor to stay true to his vision and the notes he left behind.

Breakers are 13 to 5 after the first quarter. Great too not to have to listen to obnoxious Aussie commentators.
When a NZ team is winning I always prefer to listen to Aussie commentators. The taste of schadenfreude can be so sweet. Same reason I enjoyed watching Obama’s victory on Fox – CNN just wouldn’t have been as much fun.

It's that - for me - pictures are much, much harder to forget, and therefore more disturbing. I can forget words, if I try hard enough, or at least mentally blur them.
This is mostly true for me but the one notable exception being American Psycho - that is one novel where the words alone have burned some gruesome scenes indelibly on my brain.
