  • Hard News: Memories of the attic press,

he was severely beaten to near death by the Mongrel Mob following a mis-understanding

Ah yes, it's always a 'mis-understanding' isn't it? Beatings are normally only administered to those that deserve them, and being the professionals that they are the gangs are always remorseful when a 'mis-understanding' occurrs and the wrong person gets his beans.

BTW - this soiree was a bit elitist wasn't it? What about the 90s crew?? Someone should have invited Andy Pickering (now RE:Mix) so we could reminisce about his short pants. Ditto for John Russell (who by definition wore short pants). And Jonathon King (now a Director I'm told); and that chick who drummed; and .... who else?

  • Auckland City of Cars -- Part 3,

Why don't we finish this freaking motorway instead of the half loop we're getting now. Funny how the poor folks in Mt Roskill will get their side of the loop rumbling thru but the rich folks in Kohi can stop theirs?

    No not funny really.

I've travelled extensively and marvelled at the various public transport systems I've been able to use. On the other hand, Auckland public transport is CRAP. And so is our motorway system: ONE motorway dissecting the city? So if something goes wrong the whole city stops and no-one can go anywhere.

The problem is the beareucrats running the show have no basis in reality. Who was the smartiepants who sold off the Newmarket railway land so that there is no no room for an interchange?

  • Hard News: Oh Dear ...,

where the heck is John Key in all of this?? Has he got an opinion

He's got plenty but he will be keeping them to himself until the run up to the election. He's not stupid. He sees which way the wind is blowing first before opening his mouth. Clarke has done the same on this smacking debate: she now says a light smack won't get you arrested.

If cops look the other way when ppl smoke dope in public (as they do when they've got no other reason to bust you) I can't see them arresting parents who smack.

  • Hard News: Shonky scepticism,

    Hey Steve

Anytime anyone says Al Gore claims to have invented the internet I always chime in with "show me where'. So good on you for actually posting the link - the first time I've seen anyone do it.

But actually in following the link I see all Al Gore says is "...During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet...." That's not quite the same as saying "I invented the internet". Sure, Gore is claiming credit for getting Congress to back the Internet project; and maybe one day he will claim credit for raising awareness on the Global Warming issue too.

As Grigg has pointed out above: "The Internet would not be where it is in the United States without the strong support given to it and related research areas by the Vice President in his current role and in his earlier role as Senator." - Vincent Cerf.

Oh, and BTW - Gore has been criticised by the right for his high energy usage at home. He has a larger than average home, complete with offices, and an area for his Secret Service detail. Based on squarefootage his energy useage is average.

Oh, and BTW - I think Global Warming is a crock too, just like the Millennium Bug BS. But my thoughts are based on gut feeling, not false facts.

  • Hard News: Shonky scepticism,

Watching the Today show on Prime the other morning (the Aussie breakfast show from Channel 7 - or is 9?) I noticed the topic for the day seemed to be the 'confirmation' overnight from scientists that serious errors had been proven in Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth doco and we could all relax and boy don't those greenies feel stupid now. It was the kind of 'talking point' 'banter' normally seen on Fox so I was kinda surprised to see it on the Aussie show. Anyone know if Paul Henry was making similar comments on Breakfast. I'm not up early enough to see that.

And BTW ~ Fox N Friends were also saying the same thing, complete with yet another giggle about that Al Gore being the guy who claimed to have invented the internet (cue Steve Doozey unable to supress his guffaws). Gore never ever claimed that and Fox know it but why let the facts get in the way of a good swiftboating??

"...I may not know much about charter, but I know what I like!.."

I couldn't for the life of me source the original quote, but the above links to a Monty Python skit.

  • Hard News: Gay, but really not happy,

Is express getting paid any money for its role in this? How does TVNZ, or NZOA, justify putting taxpayer dollars into promoting a private business at the expense of other gay centred media?

As Robyn has poinnted out, this is not the first time a reality TV show has given free publicity to a private company. Or even a state company - I'm sure RB can fill us in on those knobs at IRD who paid well above the going rate for a business show last year. So no, I don't think Express is contributing to the production costs.

And BTW - remember all those makeover shows that were so popular a while back? People who got their rooms redone were usually friends of the ppl making the show ...

  • So that's what Craig Parker's been doing…,

okay here it is: there are TWO taggers ... one called Fenom and one called Venom, the latter up there on Ponsonby & K Rd. In order to keep my wild conspiracy alive (although it now seems ludicrous) maybe Sony gave the money and spray cans to a tagger that couldn't spell properly at the beginning?? No? Okay I'll shut up ...
