His family members who screamed abuse at the police can fuck off

I agree. Of course the innocent should be found innocent and justice should run its course, but I have faith that you don't end up in the dock answering obscene charges unless you're of questionable character.

What does it take to get on the Mad Butcher's BBQ invite list?

  • Hard News: We'll find out where all the…,

however, this sort of idiocy only seems to take place in certain places - rural NZ, including Christchurch.

I just don't buy into this whole "its a Christchurch thing". I spent my teenage years in Auckland and Uni years in Chch. Both cities I attended parties where there was always the potential for things to get out of hand and sometimes they did.

Today we're talking about a tragedy in suburban Christchurch. Last year it could have easily been an out of control North Shore kids beach party or a South Auckland boy racer street party.

When things happen in Christchurch they happen in Christchurch but if they happen in Auckland its considered localised. "Oh thats a shore thing" or "yeah that sort of thing happens in South Auckland".

  • Hard News: The Big Roundup,

It's interesting (and a couple of the blogs alluded to this) that in the hardcore punk circles where it emerged, there's a understanding that anyone who falls will be helped up, that no one really gets hurt, especially girls, but I wonder if the munter brigade grasps that. There's also the Wall of Death (mosh pit divides into two groups, who run at each other and collide) which is more a metal thing:

The "munters" don't get it. One of these silly circles busted out during Hot Chip (indie dancy stuff) in the Boiler Room. Inappropriate, and the girls I saw weren't into it. I was wondering what the heck was going on and half expected the band to stop and say hey settle down! Now if one of these circles opened up and some mariachi dancers strolled in that would be far more entertaining.

  • Hard News: The Big Roundup,

Rather than say "no Australian flags" wouldn't it have been easier to say "no flags" and put it down to a safety issue or to prevent obstructed views of the stage?

  • Hard News: The Big Roundup,

It was odd that even the slightest breeze did effect the quality of sound and this was no more apparent then at the Green stage where Kasabian were let down by an undersized PA. It wasn't until we were within 15 meters or so of the left speaker stack before we understood what the front scrum were so enthusiastic about. Any further back the slight cross stage breeze would throw Kasabian's stomp like sound into a dopplar effect. Once closer to the action I had no problem being called a "fu*cker" with the rest of the crowd by the geezer singing the tunes on stage.

Another highlight of note, and Mr Slack can testify to this, was a small crowd bearing witness to Chris Knox's green undies after he removed his shorts in appreciation of the audience.

  • Southerly: The End of Lake Ellesmere?,

in 20 years time, all of the aquifers will be buggered and it will be all over. no lake, no cows, no water and no human ecosystem.

In a recent interview on Campbell Live about water in Canterbury the Federated Farmers president showed very little concern about long term issues and was more concerned about dairy farm economic impacts and job creation in local communities. This short sighted view ignors the long term hurt caused to these growing communities when water resources are depleted. I was astounded when he neglected to even use the current buzz word of the moment - sustainable.

Apparently Christchurch is one of a few cities in the world that does not need to treat its water supply. The word is that Nitrates from Canterbury farming will have leeched into this supply in 20 to 25 years. Sad very sad.

  • Ewan's swollen member, and other tales,

Yeah when I first saw this (and I think it was on telly last year) it was too late at night so it will be good to catch up on the episodes I missed.

    reality TV done right

Hmmm do you think apart from the monthly "highlights" it is left up to reality TV to fill the gaps?

  • Hard News: Something up with Apple?,

If it's $30 an album I sure as heck won't be buying any... ok maybe once so I can see how it works. the $16.99 figure that they have at the Australian isn't too bad, if we were to get that same figure here.

And I don't believe we are being cheapskates when we say this. If I knew that the artist was getting a larger cut I wouldn't be whining...

  • Hard News: Something up with Apple?,

So does anyone have any ideas on how much individual songs or full albums will go for? The Australian store prices are very reasonable, I was one of the lucky ones with an account in city "New Zealand".

I'd be very dissappointed if the New Zealand record companies have negotiated Apple up to $30 an album.

  • Island Life: Re Joyce!,

So what kind of email is actually opened at the National Party? I wonder what it takes for an email sent to the National Party to get noticed in an inbox? "Million Dollars contained within - click here"

To be fair any corporate network worth its salt should have flagged the message as spam - million dollars offered by reclusive religious sect, just reply, go on hit the reply button... on par with any number of Nigerian royal family scams!

But wait! The Exclusive Brethren don't use email, they instead believe that a super computer based somewhere in South Africa will eventually mind control all of us using RFID tags in our passports. As foretold by Revelations in the Exclusive Brethren Bible, as told to me by the Exclusive Brethren kid I used to sit next to at high school.

Yeah so where is Mr Joyce?
