  • Hard News: Misadventure and Muppetry,

Maybe it is a simple case of don't look behind the curtain.

Demonise the beneficiaries, make a case for them being the bludgers and then every person who has effectively got poorer since the last election will look to blame the helpless instead of those who going to get rich off of the current government policy changes.

Employment insurance? I guess if they can't just privatise ACC they can have a crack at it from the fringes.

    as for

There's definitely a story there. I do sometime feel that there are a lot of sick people who need to harden up a bit.

What about all those people who are being denied claims at ACC because of change in policy who can not work now because they can't get their operations?

  • Field Theory: Though I never liked how…,

I note that Martin Snedden (on morning Report today) said the song choice was driven by
their ad agency. Anyone know who that is?
And whether they have also used it in its
    prior placements?

hmmm.... I find this one a little hard to believe. As I was talking to someone involved with the hobbit who had overheard Snedden asking "how do you think that we can tie the Hobbit into the Rugby World Cup?"

so the lack of creativity that it took to pick the Feelers smacks of the Sned's and his mates

  • Field Theory: It's a summer get-together,

The beerfest was excellent the venue felt a little weird however music was good.

My pick of the international beers was the Hefewhietzen from the hoffbrauhaus and the best local beer was the Belgian Strong.

It was my mate that was being escorted out after an altercation in Little India queue. His thoughts were that despite that fact it was an excellent day especially the opportunity to see the Checks

  • Hard News: Do Want?,

I want one but I don't think that I want the 1st generation.

The pluses for me are that it is in the same price range as a netbook, however as it is an apple product, it will last longer than the six months that most of the netbooks I have seen last for.

This screams perfect for travelling, with the exception of being able to handle photos from your digital camera via a memory card slot.

If I was still a student and the textbooks were being delivered via this I would be stoked, the only thing that I would want would be a virtual post it note to bookmark important pages.

This will be great for handling social media in work places where it is frowned upon. Also a great way to handle information when on a client site if you are a contractor.

Negatives, every tool will want one.

As for the dropability of the iPad I will be interested to see how it goes, I have an iPod classic (not classic when I purchased it) that has survived the sauna at the gym, being drowned in salad dressing and being bounced, if I can have an iPad that lives up to the same treatment I will be all over it like a large man in a small chair.

One question I do have is where does this leave the Macbook air? it never really took off and is sort of just sits there in the Macbook range as vanity laptop.

  • Field Theory: The NPC Manifesto,

I don't subscribe to the "NZRU are idiots" meme ( not that I think they are geniuses either ). But the democratic system means they can get stuck with some unions causing trouble. And of course trying to please everybody all the time

I know, the ops manager used to be my boss and he is a very smart man.

The subject of rugby causes me to rant, and I now realise I am becoming my dad. The problem with rugby is that it is captured by politics and personality. Even in the smaller unions. Everyone wants an all black to come out of their province and when they are washed up people want those all blacks to come back and transform their home unions.
Therefore you end up with a mess of people who know how to play rugby but know feck all about how to run a business/union/club.

Then they pop up being quoted "I think we should keep ...... in the competition" without considering the impact of the whole scenario.

So here is what I propose, Salary caps, transfer fees, a cap on the number of all blacks in a team, a competition where every team plays each other at least once and auto relegation for the bottom x number of teams.

Make it transparent make it fair, and if a union can't put a competitive team/ draw a crowd bigger than the roller derby, boom they suffer the consequence.

hmmmm, I am turning into my dad. Go Richter city

  • Random Play: “Thank you, you’ve been a…,

On the subject of reviews I recall being given an assignment at university by William Dart, where we had to a attend a screening on of Jazz on a summers day and then submit a review before lunch time the next day. To which a large number of my fellow students baulked and complained that it was an unreasonable deadline. That was in the 90's I can only imagine what sort of response it would draw from students now days.

Also funniest band interaction was St. Germain at the Bruce Mason, when they stopped and asked (in broken English) the crowd to stop clapping along. Bless

  • Hard News: Iggy told me,

Yes, all that anticipation and expectation and we were close to 'what finale??' and then broken bottles and pistols in the afternoon!!!

I was talking to someone from the show the other week and they were like you are gonna love the last episode.

Next season will be the last, which is will be a shame but oh well life goes on.

Has anyone else noticed how similar Aaron Spiller's character is to Greg Feeney?

  • Hard News: The new wave,

The Fire Service is certainly taking it very seriously. A bunch of appliances from coastal stations in the Bay of Plenty/Waikato have been instructed to move "to [a] safe location"

There were several engines parked up in Mt Victoria this morning for no apparent reason. I suppose that is what happens when they activate the crisis centre

  • Hard News: Bowie for the BDO?,

I would recommend Duke Carvell's I have been for both lunch and dinner with my parents recently and the meals were spectacular.

If it was a sunny Sunday I would recommend the Southern Cross

  • Hard News: Undie Wankers,

It may be that innocent bystanders copped some pepper spray

If you watch the 3 news clip that girl was in no way an innocent bystander, it was either her or someone that looked identical to her leaning out of the Window having a go at the police. A police officer then closes the window to shut her up. So the pepper spraying must have happened after that.

I was disappointed that TV3 had that footage and spliced it into the interview without showing her, and questioning her actions
