Craig: I don't have much truck with what Roughan says but he has a point here. Not everyone drinks from the PJ/LOR cool aid. I haven't seen one LOR film, not interested in the Hobbit movies-does this make me a national traitor? I just hope for everyones sake the movies are a success after all the trouble. If they're not some heads are gonna roll.

A Serious question-What if the movie(s) are crap and tank at the box office? Do we get our money back? Just askin' cause everyone seems to be assuming that they'll be LOR huge.

Hey I'm happy the film will get made here and provide employment, attract attention to the country as a tourist destination etc. but it seems Key and co. are happy to bag teachers as greedy and put all their efforts into a film while ignoring the mess that is the Primary and Secondary teachers negotiations, which are not just about money but conditions and clawbacks that will make teaching a less atrractive profession than it is now. Just sayin. Now back to writing reports to the accompaniment of The Faces.

So....no money to pay teachers more but money for Warner Bros. I guess my profession that does more for this country than making movies does doesn't count. Teaching's not sexy but making movies is.

National Standards are a simplistic answer to a complex problem.To suddenly expect all children to achieve simply because a standard has been set shows a complete lack of understanding of what happens in schools and how children go about their learning. Thats' not say we teachers don't set standards for the children we teach, it's just that we are realistic while also focussing on how much progress they are making as well as all the other stuff like physical activity,art, etc. I just wish these media commentators who like to have a go at teachers about the standards would actually come into schools and talk to us about how the whole National Standards format is a mess and very difficult to understand and implement in places. That Listener editorial was lazy and showed no understanding of what the problems are with National Standards.
Now off to school-Today's volleyball after school then Kapa Haka festival tonight...hmmm wonder what standard they come under.
