  • Hard News: Cabinet and the Reeferendum, in reply to Sacha,

    Peter Dunne

He's not impressed about the non binding part for one, and that there will be no worked up bill for all to peruse before voting, second. It all reads like political gamesmanship to me. Dont know what he's fretting about really, he's getting a fucking fat govt pension so he can just fuck off AFAIC.
The Nats and FF are running full on scare campaigns which are more likely to influence the uninformed, that will be the biggest problem. I just want to be able to grow my own in peace. How long is that going to take? Fucking forever, death will come sooner at this rate.

  • Speaker: The economics of shit speech, in reply to Matthew Hooton,

    sinister and dangerous

Forgive me for wanting a bit more specificity around your generalization.
But I fail to see how suggesting that articles that require some working knowledge of the science specifically climate change should have some intellectual rigor, or at least an understanding of the topic rather than ones own reckons or quotes from obvious crackpots or outliers, is sinister and dangerous
If were you not including that subject, could you please note that exception.

And easy on the scare quotes eh!

  • Speaker: The economics of shit speech,

Bullshit artist’s usually come well heeled and as its from an Aussie source let me just add 'No surprises there’
If your quoting from a wealthy person (usually WCM’s) there’s a very strong probability its going to be spin, playing fast and loose with everything not in their interest to promote. Just sayin’

What happens outside of this pay barrier isnt of any concern to those erecting it. They will just fuss about what goes on inside it.
Anyway Im sure they think anyone who's having "financial difficulties" has, in their minds, only themselves to blame. So they'll give Mike a megaphone to yell at the scum.

  • Speaker: The economics of shit speech,

I applaud your initiative wanting to point out faults that have been appearing in the media for a while now and why it has been happening, money of course. Or that it has become economically viable to go down this path.
Sure people voting with their wallets may persuade the publisher, media outlets that this isnt a viable option anymore. Tho it wont stop individuals with a distorted world view spewing up online that will take time and a much changed society.
I just wonder have those people running the publishers, media outlets become so mentally compartmentalized that when they are at work do the ideals, they must try to live by in their personal lives, get left on the doorstep? Is the only thing that will bring about a change is hitting them in the pocket?
I mean we all want to strive for a better community(I hope) Tho definitions of that vary so widely at present it is impossible to see how they will ever be reconciled. And the loudest voices are so wrong in their solutions, but so convinced of their rightness it will take a massive step down in ego to even get on something akin to a societal correction. I dont think such voices are capable of doing it.( Maybe thats just the pessimist in me speaking.)
But the problems range much deeper than in the media that is just the obvious symptom. We need to stop shying away from tackling the issues we face as societies and people. The prioritizing of the economic principle is a dead end, 50 year of neoliberalism has proved that. I just pray we are not so wedded to it that we can give it up. Again pessimistic :-(
But maybe the media is the place to start, we all want/like to communicate. Yeah so good on you.

Family First tieing itself in knots

Wow that is just sick, if anything it is an indictment of US mental health care. The person they use as an example to push their agenda, had blazingly obvious mental health issues. That needed clinical care, which were obviously neglected in his case.
That his tragic story can be used like that shows how unscrupulous FF are.

    4chan and 8chan

Im hoping we dont have to, in the public realm, because those who say they want to target hate speak on the net are, by now, all over those fuckers. Problem tho, most of them are in the US. And yes, Im looking at our PM and her much heralded coming together with other heads of state.
Im just thinking is that really necessary? Or are they just wanting to be seen to be doing stuff.
And all they will end up doing is flattering the likes of Google and FB by associating with them, and all the great unwashed will see is the photo ops and get fed the BS 'We had an excellent meeting"...wonderful. And G& FB will become default surveillance organisations.

pest control will be more expensive to run and the cost will be passed on to the customers/landowners

Have you been going round the country doing everyones costings again, when you knew the legislation was going to be passed and you wanted the facts to back up your claims? UMM that would be a NO wouldnt it! Cant let the facts get in the way of a good scaremongering!

Prioritising costs will lead to bunny control being underfunded hence more ecological damage

Those fucking Victorians introducing those bunnies back in the day. If only they had given a thought to the ecological damage their harmless pursuit of food and sport would bring. Not great forward planners those tweedy chaps EH WOT!
